Architecture, Ornament and Art Ornamentation in architecture has been a controversial subject from the past. this subject was criticized by a lot of architects and theoreticians such as Adolf Loos and Le Corbusier. Adolf Loos is known for his stand against ornamentation or decorative arts in architecture. by his book, Loos argued why the ornamentation in architecture is a crime. Loos' "Decoration and Crime" can't be perused, at the end of the day, basically as architectural theory; to peruse it so is to smooth out critical parts of its tendency as a social mediation, one that raises fascinating issues concerning how discourses about design were held at the time. and that’s the reason some consider the decoration creates pleasure and joy through architecture. (Pietrzak 2011). and like any decoration it can be used to conceal or highlight features and therefore it can be arguing if it is necessary or not. for example, the LoosHaus on Michaelerplatz in Vienna also it is designed without any ornamentation but the reason it is highlighted within the context of the street is because every other building is ornamented. and the same would happen if all the buildings are without any decorations and that building was decorated it would still highlight the building in the context. like going to a formal party in pajamas. And each one of them had their own theory. Although Adolf Loos was extreme in his opinion about Art being used to a practical utility. But The contemporary use of Ornament is different than the ones used during the renaissance till the end of 19th C. where the ornaments were used aspects such as pediments. (Loos 1908-1910)But the problem with the Ornamentation which history clearly proves it is that conserving all the historical ornamentation is expensive and require constant and continuous maintenance and renovation. But now ornaments are used on the surface constructive parts (Picon 2013). Adolf Loos and Le Corbusier had different theories about the importance of ornamentation and the effect it had on architecture, and above all the progress and enhancement of architectural style. but they all see the importance of architecture towards that serves the people and for that I can say that sometimes ornaments have their position in architecture but not in the highest priority that serves the daily life of
