My inspiration to pursue a nursing degree comes from a wide spectrum, ranging from my family to my academic inspirations. For instance, I was inspired to pursue a nursing degree because of the impact that being a part of the medical field provides to the community. Being a nurse will be both a fulfilling and enlightening career that I can enjoy. Nurses are the backbone of patient care and my hope is to be able to contribute to a patient’s proper recovery. My family has been an inspiration for me since they are the people who have motivated me to find a career that I can enjoy instead of being swayed by the opinion of others. I have always been a science oriented person and being able to have a career that is centered in science motivates me to follow a path in nursing. Ever since I participated in an anatomy and physiology course I have become even more interested in the human body and how each part of the body interacts with one another and with the environment. As a result, I cannot imagine myself in any other career. Consequently, my desire to be able to use the skills that I learned while studying to be a nurse to be able to travel to different countries and provide care to those who need urgent medical care. My belief is that every person should have the right to proper health care has inspired me to covet to travel to other countries where I can contribute my knowledge and skills to teach others nursing student and professionals how to provide care in an efficient manner that can lead to a decrease in the amount of illnesses that the citizens of that country have to face. My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. While working with patients, side-by-side with nurses I became enamored with the potential of a nursing career. I now have a rewarding career working as a Medical-Surgical nurse on a Medical University Hospital floor that specializes in Transplant, Nephrology and Urology. It is a responsibility we take for ourselves and for others who rely on us to be present in any situations. The mission requires an openness to relationship with others. The consistency of performing at a higher level each time the job is done and strive to give all for the greatest good. In collaboration with others involved. That bond can strengthen when everyone involved intersect their effort to the same purpose. A week before Christmas in 2013, my stepfather suddenly lost consciousness. His body stiffened and he began to violently convulse – he was having a seizure. Later in the hospital, the doctors informed us that my stepdad had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. The anguish that I felt that night was eased by a nurse who talked to my family about my stepfather’s condition and assured us that the hospital would do everything that they can to assist him with recovery. The next few weeks were filled with uncertainty as my stepdad laid comatose, no knowledge of when or even if he would wake up. During that time, my interactions with the nurses always made me feel safe and comforted Unfortunately, he passed away in January 2014. Though this was a traumatic and life altering experience, what I remember most are the nurses that provided care to my stepfather. They went above and beyond their outlined job duties to care for my loved one and to make my family feel secure even in such a difficult time.
My commitment to pursue a career in nursing stems from my desire for making a positive difference in another person’s life as it was made for my entire family life growing up in Western Africa. My nursing career commitment to aid in serving the underserved across the nation started from my teenage years in my original hometown Africa. I was born in the Western part of Africa and I knew and lived first-hand how impoverished health disparity is among the underserved areas in my community. While growing up in Africa and being the oldest of six siblings with a father and a mother who are uneducated; life was seriously hard not knowing where the next meal will come from. To begin my personal statement, I grew up in the West African nation of The Gambia. I am the youngest of thirteen children and I was adopted by my uncle and his wife at age 2. My adoption was very different than the American way where all sorts of contractual documents had to be signed. Although the end results are the same, mine was done without signing any documents because my parents were just giving me up to my uncle and his wife to raise me. At age 5, my uncle enrolled me at Primary School without the consent of my biological parents for fearing that they would object because most parents in the Gambia do not think girls have the same rights to education as boys. I grew up without a television, running water or electricity. I did not know that I lacked
“Every man is born as many men, and dies as a single one.” This quote by German philosopher Martin Heidegger fits well with my decision to aspire to become a physician assistant. While I always wanted to help others, especially the disadvantaged of our society, I did not initially realize what outlet this longing would have. Ultimately, however, I found that the PA profession was the best avenue where I could unite this concern for others with my intellectual strengths and abilities.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
My calling in life has always been clear to me, in my heart I have always known that I wanted to become a part of the medical field. Ever since I was a little girl I have admired the men and women who work in this field. Their drive and compassion to help those in need inspire me to become a future Registered Nurse. One of the many individuals within this field who has inspired me is Alfred Lopez a Registered Nurse at the California Institution for Women. He is 45 years old and has received his Bachelor 's degree in nursing from UCLA. As a nurse he provides exemplary care without judgement or bias towards those who are convicted as felons and criminals. He is a respectable and good natured man that lends an unbiased helping hand to all, despite what they have done in this life. This is why I strive to one day join the field of nursing because in this field every patient is treated equally among one another.
I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my ideal profession. In nursing, I can provide others with the care and the knowledge they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I can also give others the love and attention they need to be proud of the life they live. I think that society is very vulnerable and I want to make great contributions to the world of nursing. I don’t just want to be a nurse. I want to be a great nurse who is looked up to because of my experience, knowledge, and competence as a healthcare professional.
The beauty of nursing is it allows me to travel whilst still working in the health care environment. As well as exploring different cultures, I could provide care to individuals of countries where health care is not accessible. Nursing will allow me to explore the world whilst fulfilling a rewarding career. Additionally, friends and family have always encouraged I study nursing. Adult Nursing is a very rewarding career which provides endless opportunities. I would describe myself as a caring and compassionate person. I believe I possess these qualities naturally. I am compelled to put other people’s needs before my own. I can contribute my personal qualities to this course of being dedicated and determined into committing myself to this 3 year course and excelling academically. Personally, caring for my mother with high blood pressure made me interested in the world of medicine. From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
I was never one of those who as a young girl wanted to become a nurse, I knew I always wanted to work in health care administration. I will say my journey to become a nurse started after facing some challenging health and personal experience. I lost my father suddenly to heart disease at age 15. My father was my bedrock who at that time always wanted me to become a nurse, but as a teenager I wanted to do my own thing. Not until I experienced a series of hospitalization. One that stood out for me was when I was in the hospital for two weeks getting exchange transfusions, and I almost died. The nurses were incredible. They were angels at my bedside. They encouraged me, worked me through my treatment plan, and explained every detail to me. The nurses were the parents I did not have at my bedside for 24 hours. After discharge, I started to think about a career in nursing. Not too long after this occurrence, I started taking my prerequisites while I volunteered at Bellevue Hospital. After a long journey, I finally became a registered nurse.

I have always wanted to become a nurse since I was a little girl, seeing both of my grandmothers working in a hospitals and always helping everyone in need. My goals in becoming a nurse is just the basic foundation of just helping people who physically cannot help themselves. I want to be able to shed light in people's lives who are losing it because of their situation. I feel as nurses is the backbone in the hospital. The nurses are there day in and day out with the patients, holding their hands and walking them and their families throughout such a difficult time. Nurses are also their supporting the doctors and all other staff. I’ve found especially in these past few years that I want to spend my life helping others and that's what I can
