How often do you wonder what about the Civil war? Have you ever wondered how many advantages the North and South had? The war was a very bad time for the North and South. The Civil war started on April 12, 1861, and ended on May 13, 1865. The war was four years long, and the war was between the North and the South. The North and South both had more advantages than disadvantages. The North did have a few more advantages than the South. The North and South had both benefited from political social, economic, and demographic advantages. The North had lots of advantages. One big advantage they had was Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was a really good president who wanted to end slavery and had good strategies ( Deverell 491, 511 ). They both had really good leaders during the war. The North had Ulysses S. Grant and The South had Robert E. Lee (Deverell 518, 522). During the war, Lincoln wanted another great leader. He tried to get Lee to come work for him. Lincoln also wanted more troops. “There can be no neutrals in this war, only patriots or traitors,” Lincoln said. Both leaders had really good plans. Most of the population in the North and South were African Americans. The only difference is some are free and some are slaves. Most of their money came from selling cotton. The South just made more than the North ( Deverell 513 ). The populations were big. Everyone was joining the army for the war. The North had lots of African American soldiers. People were hesitant to give them weapons. They thought that they were seeking to get revenge. The scary part for African Americans in the was if they got caught they would get killed right away by the Confederate army. They wouldn’t be put back into slavery. Both armies used the same
