America is the country where people immigrate to in order for them to live out their dream. The “American dream” is something that everyone believes they can accomplish, but is that really the case? America is one of the most developed and industrialized countries in the world, but we are not perfect by any means. America was founded on opportunity, and that is why many African American’s, Middle Easterners, and Hispanics have immigrated to this country. They did not know about the discrimination in this country though, when they moved here. Is it really possible for African American’s and Hispanics to live the “American dream” if they are discriminated against in the workplace, and many other places? From my research on prejudice and discrimination, what causes it, and what can be done to help the problem I can see that many people do not even realize how big of a problem this is. I believe that this problem is actually bigger than what people let on, and that if we do not find a way to eliminate people’s individual feelings from their decisions, nothing can really be done about it. I feel like the best solution is education people on discrimination, and teaching them about other cultures and how they work. Many people just discriminate because they are not sure where these minority groups came from, and I believe that educating them on this will help. Discrimination can be decreased in today’s world; we just need to educate people about it.
