In this semester, I have learned many new beneficial things for writing. After writing three essays, my writing skills have improved on many aspects. Writing an essay is not a simple job, and every work you have done can decide a lot for an essay. Every time I write an essay, I need to read many things. I have spent much time on reading especially when I was writing the textual analysis. I read not only the sources I would use, but also the sentences I had written. When I was searching for information for essay 2, reading quickly with goals could help me with my starting draft; when I was revising my draft, reading carefully could help me find where should be changed. To make an essay better, reading is one of the most necessary skills, because it can help your essay be good for not only yourself to express ideas, but also the readers to understand. …show more content…

When I was writing the outline of my textual analysis, I had read the article Chimerica about four times. To save time, I must read in a fast speed. As every time I had a deeper comprehension of this article, I sought to do a new job with my plan of essay. The first time of reading is to learn what the article is about. The second time, I highlighted the events which had been mentioned and the authors’ attitudes in this article. I had a clearer awareness of the article’s aim. Then I stared to think what I could gain from this article in order to find my own thesis and ideas. After a short think, I reread what I had highlighted, and classified the sources according to my own ideas on the third time. And I checked the sources for my thesis at the forth time. For textual analysis, the process of reading should be quickly but step by step. The essay is to express ideas, so the sources should be accurate and suitable for my ideas.
