While reading Chapter 3, a passage that spoke to me was the portion on creating a voice to match your purpose, audience, and genre. I have issues with this. Due in part to the way I picture my words when I write or type them. I tend to try to speak to people the same way I would in person. While I see nothing wrong with this, it makes it hard for me to write about certain topics. I could write all day about how to train a dog or the steps to giving a tattoo, but would have issues writing about my views on a passage from an Edgar Allen Poe book or what my thoughts are on the educational system in America. My thoughts and views come out in a slang type style and most likely not educated at all. This does not make me incompetent or say that …show more content…

To be able to write a paper or a letter on whatever I choose and for it to sound educated and literate, but at the same time represent me. That’s why I believe these textbook quizzes are playing a big part in that. It is forcing me to express myself and talk about things that I am learning or things that are new to me. The more I push and explore these different areas that I am unfamiliar with I feel myself becoming more and more confident in the way of writing. This is a huge step for me due in part that I’ve always been hesitant to try and express myself through writing. There was always this stigma that people would judge my thought process or the way I form a sentence and put my own flavor into it. I can see this changing though. An in the future I believe after I have completed this course. My outlook on writing will have changed drastically, and the way I write and read will have changed for the better. Only time will tell but I know with hard work and preservation I can succeed in this course and come out at the end a better writer, with a larger outlook on English literature and the writing process in
