Journey of Self-Discovery: A Student Athlete's Perspective

As I grow older, I often think what is my purpose in life. Why am I here? There are many people that have the same characteristics as myself, so what makes me so unique? I am a 21 year old, white, heterosexual, middle-class female that runs cross-country and track and field at a university called Clayton State University. Although I am considered middle-class, I, as an indivudal, am not middle class. My parents’ income makes me middle-class. Being a student-athlete, I would be considered lower class. The characteristics I just shared are everyday characteristics. That by no means, is not what makes me who I am. I am someone who is 4’11” from Illinois. I am scared of changes, but I like to challenge myself. Thus, this is a reason why I chose to go to school in Georgia rather than in Illinois. Without their love and support, I do know where I would be with out them. Although, we may disagree on situations, we give our opinion and still be considerate. It is never a dull when we are all together. Living in a household with three sisters was not easy. We are not quite the quiet household as some may display. We are actually the opposite. There is constant bickering about who what wore clothes, but at the end of the it is already forgotten. VI. Family Celebration My family values the typical American tradition. The only time my entire family gets together is on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and Easter. Within my immediate family, we celebrate birthdays every year, however, with my extended family we do not. I have realized we only celebrate children’s birthday with loads of presents. My entire family is Catholic, although so may not be practining Catcholics.
