Growing up, every girl dreams of becoming a princess, but for me, my dream was always to become a nurse. I have been surrounded by people in the healthcare profession throughout my entire life. Seeing my mom, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandmothers in this field made a tremendous impact on me. I have always known that one day I would strive to follow in their footsteps. In the last ten years, I have accumulated an in-depth understanding of what this field consists of through various experiences. Both of my grandmothers had serious cases of dementia. I visited both of them at their nursing homes often and some days were more difficult than others. One moment, it seemed like they were fine, but another moment they could not recognize their own grandchild. It killed me to see them in such a state of pain and confusion. Watching the nurses take care of my grandparents led me to have a deep respect for the position. Nursing became my passion, and this personal struggle ultimately led me towards achieving my life purpose. …show more content…

I was rushed to children’s hospital for potential appendicitis. While at the hospital, I witnessed several children suffering from cancer. Although this horrible disease was taking over their lives, they seemed to be the happiest children I’ve ever seen. Not only were they full of joy, but the nurses were as well. They knew each child on a personal level, played with them, and sang with them. They inspired me to want to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. I hope to be able to care for children and make their days brighter no matter how awful their conditions
