Growing up, every girl dreams of becoming a princess, but for me, my dream was always to become a nurse. I have been surrounded by people in the healthcare profession throughout my entire life. Seeing my mom, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandmothers in this field made a tremendous impact on me. I have always known that one day I would strive to follow in their footsteps. In the last ten years, I have accumulated an in-depth understanding of what this field consists of through various experiences. Both of my grandmothers had serious cases of dementia. I visited both of them at their nursing homes often and some days were more difficult than others. One moment, it seemed like they were fine, but another moment they could not recognize their own grandchild. It killed me to see them in such a state of pain and confusion. Watching the nurses take care of my grandparents led me to have a deep respect for the position. I was rushed to children’s hospital for potential appendicitis. While at the hospital, I witnessed several children suffering from cancer. Although this horrible disease was taking over their lives, they seemed to be the happiest children I’ve ever seen. Not only were they full of joy, but the nurses were as well. They knew each child on a personal level, played with them, and sang with them. They inspired me to want to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. I hope to be able to care for children and make their days brighter no matter how awful their conditions
Taking care of dementia patient one should have a lot of patience as in the story the author says to herself, “why I have forgo my own lunch to try and feed this woman” ( ). The author has to wait for Miss Julianne to eat her lunch first before she could go and eat her own meal. Nurses have to be very cooperative, well behavior, and caretaker. You should show empathy to your patient instead of showing sympathy like the author was concerned about Miss Julianne, and the assistant nurse tells Miss Julianne that the author “ wants to know, if you’re okay. Honey” and should be firm in your decision by using critical thinking. You should communicate with your patient and should have convincing power. The changes that I have faced are before I used to think, its easy to treat older adults but its one of the most challenging job. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from an innate desire to help people and care for them in times of need. I am also a person who thrives on being challenged and I always have new goals to achieve, so nursing suits me as few other careers offer as much diversity and learning opportunities so, attending Virginia Commonwealth University is something that has been my desire for the longest. The intentions that I have for when I become a nurse practitioner are to aid and care for the sick, as well as I am able but also to assist doctors and staff as well as I am capable.

From five years old up I knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner. When I was around 13 years old my mom got very sick which had her in and out of the hospital, this only pushed me further in the direction of becoming a nurse practitioner. I would always see nurses in and out of my mom’s room when she was in the hospital, some were nice others were not. I always tell myself, “You’re going to be one of the nice ones, the one that makes the whole ordeal just a little bit better.”
Growing up, I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare field, but I never knew exactly what job I wanted to take part in, until I discovered how broad a nurse’s specialty could be. A Registered Nurse can work in any age group or focus on a certain system of the body. My mother works in the health field as a medical transcriptionist. I became interested in the health field by her many stories she shared with me while she worked in the hospital. She taught me a lot of different things. My family history inspired me as well to join the medical field. My grandma and great grandma both suffered from breast cancer and my grandpa suffered from throat cancer. Becoming a Registered Nurse has been my dream for as long as I can remember. This dream became real to me when my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in her life. I now have what drives me to be a Registered Nurse and to learn more about the career itself so I can help people out live all the odds against them.
My desire to become a nurse is deeply-rooted in my aspiration to contribute to the well-being and improvement of the less privileged as well as my own personal ethical stance. My decision was made easy by the professional code of ethics of nursing, which correspond with my personal beliefs. One of my personal values that have shaped me into who I am today is honesty. It is important to provide patients with accurate information on procedures, diagnosis, treatment options, and possible outcomes. Although I am fallible, it is imperative to acknowledge and take responsibility of my own mistakes. These personal qualities would help propel me into my professional career.
When I was in elementary school teachers would ask students the generic question of what they wanted to be when they grew up. Immediately, I would respond I wanted to be a nurse. Now, I am an undergraduate student in college and still my answer has not changed. As I embark on this rigorous journey to become a nurse, I have started to consider how I will undertake the practice of nursing and what personal values I will incorporate into my professional values. When I am a practicing nurse, I plan to reflect on the role models that inspired me to become a nurse, incorporate my own personal strengths and talents, integrate Gonzaga’s mission into my own values, and contribute to the profession of nursing through social justice.
If I had to look back at the elementary school version of myself and someone mentioned the word nurse to me my first thought was that is a girl’s profession. While I was interested in medicine I never knew much about the careers in medicine. I have two older brothers, one become a computer analyst the other a computer programmer and my father was a mechanical engineer. In addition, nobody in my family had been involved in the medical field so I had no one to turn to gain knowledge about careers in medicine. Naturally I wanted to follow in my family’s footsteps so I decided I wanted a career in technology.
Ever since I was in middle school I dreamed of working in the medical field. I realized nursing was the profession for me when my grandfather became terribly sick with lung cancer during my freshman year of high school. It puzzled me that one of the healthiest and most physically active people I knew could be afflicted by such a damaging disease. After watching my grandfather’s suffering and the pain my entire family felt from his death, I knew I wanted to go into a field to help others that are facing the same challenges. This is when I discovered all of the opportunities that a career in nursing could offer me.
Nursing and Qualities That I Possess to become a Good Nurse Nursing is the act of safely caring, protecting and improving our clients’/patients’ health and ability without causing any further harm or disability to them. Our primary goal is to restore and maintain good health physically, spiritually and psychologically. It is a science, such that one has to apply the nursing knowledge and technical aspects of practice. However, it is important to incorporate the act of patient-centered care, which is defined according to QSEN/NOF, as holistic care that recognizes the patient as the source of control and full-partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care with respect for the patient’s desire, values, needs and preferences. It has to incorporate with the nurse’s personality, i.e., certain qualities that the individual possess.
University of Saint Francis is the right college for me and you won’t be sorry you picked me! Last year I had enrolled in a vocational class called Primary Health Care. In Primary Health Care I gained my CNA license and later got a job at a nursing home. Since then I have found a love in caring for people, nothing gives my heart more joy then being there for someone. Whether it be for daily care or someone just needing to sit and talk. Since then I have decided to further my medical education into becoming an RN.
Caring for people is a prerequisite for becoming a nurse. This can often be effortless and second nature but then there are other times where caring for someone is not always the easiest thing to do. You see it in the frustrated mom of the two-year-old who is throwing a temper tantrum in Target. Or the nurse of a patient who presses his call light frequently for seemingly insignificant things. Caring takes patience. With nursing, in particular, you need to feel called to the profession. You need to feel as though nursing is something you desperately have to do. As if you would be disobeying or cheating if you did not become a nurse. This calling can come from many different places or people, but for me, it comes from the Holy Spirit. Throughout my life, I would get so excited going to the doctor’s office or the hospital. I longed to stay and discover parts of the hospital I had not had the pleasure of finding yet. The career i chose is a branch of the medical field. I chose a career in nursing, more specifically the career path of a registered nurse. This career consists of providing care for people of all ages and helping them with managing their conditions. I chose this career because my mother is an rn and my family has a strong presence in the medical field. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills, or talents needed, salary, benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
I have always wanted to become a nurse since I was a little girl, seeing both of my grandmothers working in a hospitals and always helping everyone in need. My goals in becoming a nurse is just the basic foundation of just helping people who physically cannot help themselves. At the age of 36, mom decided to return back to college to obtain her nursing degree. This wasn’t a hard decision for her to make. The April before she enrolled in school my great grandmother passed away. This major dilemma played a major role in mom’s returning back to school. She had taken care of my great grandmother for months before she passed away, and decided that she wanted to make an impact on the lives of geriatrics.
