Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, many may view the downs as negative, although I believe all experiences happen for our common good , I like to refer to them as lessons. Because of the multiple lessons throughout my life, I am prepared for the rigor of becoming a medical doctor.

My educational background had an extremely strong impact on my development and interest, and consequently influenced my decision to pursue medicine. I was fortunate enough to attend school in a community where massive developmental changes were being made to create specific educational opportunities for students. My main goal was to expose myself to the true nature of caring and aiding a human being, and to be absolutely certain that I could not only perform the technical skills necessary of a competent health care provider, but also have the will, drive, and passion necessary to become a medical doctor. Being an EMT helped build the confidence that usually goes hand in hand with experience, but It also helped rediscovered my aspiration. One night, an emergency call lead to responding to a car crash along I-395, a major highway in Washington, DC. Two high school aged boys suffered multiple traumas from their car flipping after a hit and run accident. I’d assist in securing a neck brace on one the boys, as I look down, I noticed the bloodied football medallion hanging from his necklace. A couple of days later, after making another transport to the hospital, I learned the boy had multiple fractures along his cervical vertebrae. To say the least it would be a long road to playing football again. Sad about his loss, I couldn’t help but to think about the treatment I’d be able to provide if I were already a
