As we age and enter different stages of life, our personal obligations and responsibilities tend to become more time-consuming. As a wife, student, employee, and caretaker for an elderly woman, some days feel incredibly overwhelming and daunting. By applying a specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound (S.M.A.R.T.) process to my day, it becomes much more feasible. However, what about the long-term goals that will affect your future? By using the S.M.A.R.T. goal system, you are able to make your dreams a reality one small step at a time. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012), I was able to understand the definition of each word in the acronym. In other words, specific stands for the who, what, where, why, and when of the goal. Measurable is explained by asking how much, how often, and how many. Attainable asks if the goal achievable. Relevant is defined as how it applies to your ultimate vision. Finally, time-bound is a time-restraint you establish to complete the specific goal. Furthermore, there is a section for intention or in other words, the long-term goal (Tatt, 2012). By filling out this worksheet I was able to first state my intention and then break it down further into smaller specific goals that would eventually lead up to the final picture. By choosing just one specific goal at a time and achieving that success, it becomes much easier to complete your overall dream. The final piece in my comprehension o... ... middle of paper ... ...n you desire, taking an encompassing goal and breaking it down to smaller specific goals allows you to create a defined map that will promote your progress, one small step at a time, until your dreams have been achieved. People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). People need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverant when situations become difficult. To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?
One of the best ways to follow a successful path is to set goals for yourself. They are important to keep yourself on task and to get to a desired point of self fulfillment. The issue can be how to achieve goals in a successful manner. The issue is "Although people may desire or intend to attain some outcome, they are not committed to that as a goal until they are willing to invest affect, cognition, and behavior in attaining it" (Traci Mann, 2013). This is why it is important to have a set path on how to accomplish important goals. I have chosen three goals that I want to accomplish to demonstrate a Process known as SMART, to help accomplish them. There goals are that I want to finally earn a college degree(personal), I want to make it into the honor society while earning my degree(academic), and I want to earn my degree in order to contribute to Autism research(professional). All of these goals range in the amount of time it will take to accomplish them. Some are long term, but I can still use the SMART goal process in order to achieve them. The SMART steps to follow are:
goals which is an acronym for specific, measurable, action, realistic, and time. Smart goals should be goals that are clear with a specific end result, may be measured and tracked, have specific actions that are necessary for the goal to be achieved, have a time limit and be a realistic goal for the individual. When referring to SMART goals, I made my goal to have a GPA of a 3.7 or higher by the end of the fall semester. My goal as a whole was to become more self-aware by practicing different strategies to assess and discover what learning style, learning habits, and thinking patterns work more effectively. To reach this goal, I said that I would, and I did, to begin work on an assignment on the day it was given out for at least 30 minutes, to make note cards on the notes taken that day every time I received notes, and that I would have all study materials for a test ready 3 days before the examination. I still have not received my final grade for any class, but I will know that I have achieved my goal when I have a 3.7 or higher GPA. I believe that every student should achieve, in one way or another, a piece of every student success definition, to assure that the student is well rounded. To achieve each of the student success definitions a student should use the S.M.A.R.T. goal method to guarantee that they will achieve success in each way possible. I do not know yet for sure if I have achieved my goal yet, but
Goals should be identified based on the importance .They must represent an objective toward which both willing and able to work. A goal should b grounded within a time frame. When Alice is paying off a student loan she should set a time frame for the repayment of the loan.
The best way to do this is by creating SMART goals. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time. Having a specific goal is making the goal simple and significant. Keeping the goal measurable allows meaning and motivation. Achievable goals mean that the goal is realistically attainable.
Remembering my long term goals will be the key to my success. Every morning, I wake up at 5 am to go to a job that I hate. Every time I clock in, it reminds me that I’m doing what I have to do to be happy. Just as well, every time I clock out, I am excited to hurry and get home to do my school work. It may seem silly, but these little reminders help keep my mind where it needs to be.
“One way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals”: Michael Korda Goals are crucial to life. They add discipline, determination and enthusiasm to keep moving in life for something that has the potential to change our present and future significantly. For example, a student sets a goal to complete graduation to get a job and secure his future. The student, in short, secures his life with the goal to gain a graduate degree.
According to a Cornell University article “A goal is a concreate action event or outcome that you strive to obtain. Goals enrich our lives, give us energy, create a sense of purpose and give us a “road Map” (ref1). The S.M.A.R.T acronym is a widely used method for setting goals. Using this methodology sets, specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timed goals. Specific goals give you details of the goal. To determine if the goal is met it needs to be measurable. Attainable goals mean are they realistic if not consider setting a different goal. A realistic goal needs to be worthwhile, important and necessary. There should also be a timeline set to measure the progress of reaching the proposed goal. Setting a timeline will also help to manage the many social, family, work, and school responsibilities. Scherman says in the 6 Time Management Tips for College Students there are six tips too time management. The first one is to read and understand your course calendar. After reviewing the course calendar began to plan ahead. Next is to make out a schedule putting down all of the important dates due for the assignment, reports, and, exams. Use a checklist to mark off as each of the task are complete. Organize your course work by keeping each course in a separate notebook. Staying healthy helps save time by giving you more energy and allowing you

Accomplishing the goal can lead to satisfaction and further motivation, or frustration and lower motivation if the goal is not accomplished. (Moorhead, G & Griffin, R, 2004)
Goal setting is one of the most important tasks that anyone will complete because it helps measure your progress for your life. There three types of goals, short, intermediate and long term. Short term want to be obtained anywhere from 1 day to 3 months, intermediate goals reach from 3 to 6 months and long term goals are set for 6 months and beyond long term is anything that wants to be accomplished.
