The threat of extreme weather conditions and storms in almost every country around the globe will adversely affect the environment, health and the Operational Environment of the military. Hotter summers, colder winters, floods and catastrophic hurricanes determine the decisions we make for the future. People who are displaced will be concerned about their security as infrastructure breaks down. Governing is the next major issue we face. These changes in climate will have an irreversible effect on the world.
The “Domino Effect” of Climate Change is drastically declining the environment. The warmer temperatures evaporate water, trigger storms (rain, hurricanes, and tornadoes) and melt glaciers that raise sea levels. This would cause droughts …show more content…

The military always has to be ready for anything at any time. All components train in different weather conditions to simulate actual events. The unpredictable change in weather around the world makes the military thought process to be more reactive than proactive. These conditions will cause more humanitarian missions and raise the concern of how they are conducted. National Guard units are relied upon heavily to respond to national disasters in the United States. This may sound like all of the bases are covered but at the end of the day, it affects the readiness of the military. Floods and droughts will affect the infrastructure by complicating supply chains, logistics and how we conduct missions. Depending on the type environment, the disaster could compromise the aid the military is trying to provide. I feel we need train more for extreme weather events in our Warfighting Functions. The military should create brigades designed focused on humanitarian missions only. These brigades should have the latest technology for tracking potential catastrophic storms, mobile medical shelters, and all-terrain equipment. These risks pose a possible security threat for countries adversely affected by climate change.
