The Economic variable is important within the operational environment because knowing the economy and all it encompass for the location will end with a successful operation. Knowing the infrastructure, finances, and whether there are alternative structures help military personnel had better understand the economic aspects of the location. In addition, knowing the aspects of the economy in an operational environment help military individuals detect the influencing actors in the area. Knowing factors such as underground economies, international trade and institutional capabilities of an area indicates whether the actors will support the existing order. The first thing I would do once I reached theater is locate all the Operational sites and have the Food Inspectors perform inspections so I could gauge the usability of the rations. As a Food Safety Officer, my number one mission when in an operational environment would be to provide wholesome OPRATs for the Soldiers. My second task would be to research the water system. I would need to ensure that military personnel have a reputable and safe water source and hope it would be in the operational area. If water is not viable than I would have to inspected a facility that meet US standards or at least purchase water from the US and have it shipped to the theater. After ensuring that the Ration is available for meals and there is safe water to drink, I would go on the mission of finding fresh foods to replace the OPRATS meals. This part of the mission is very important because we try to find and approve fresh product from the local economy. In turn Commercial facility auditors are time consuming and difficult when trying to find a facility that meet the US standards for Food Producers. This is the stage where certain variable are important to obtaining the needed product. Know whether there is a black-market economy can help we do not want our supplies and product delivered from the US to end up missing. The infrastructure and the terrain is very important as well, knowing if the local food facility can delivered the food in a safe manner and on time will save money and save products from spoilage. Mission command is the commander's use of authority and direction to empower adaptive leaders in the conduct of unified land operations. It helps subordinates exercise disciplined initiative when operating within their commander’s intent. To facilitate effective mission command, commanders must accomplish four consecutive stages of the operations process. They must thoroughly understand the problem, visualize a solution that achieves a desired end state, and then accurately describe this visualization in order to direct the organization. Commanders continually lead and assess their organizations and provide input and influence to their subordinates and staff.

Additionally the AO helps to identify the geographic region that a commander is capable of influencing with either maneuver or fire support systems, these systems can be either kinetic or non-kinetic. This area is defined as the Area of Influence (AI), and should be larger than the AO based upon the range of the fire or maneuver system available to the Commander. Finally, while the primary accomplishment of the mission occurs within the AO, the Area of Interest (AOI) is where events, issues and areas outside of the AO can interfere with the accomplishment of the mission. These areas can extend into enemy controlled or enemy occupied areas, as well as current or planned objectives outside of the AO and AI.
As the incoming brigade commander, LTC (P) Owens, I see the critical leadership problem facing the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) is the inability or unwillingness of Colonel Cutler to lead and manage change effectively. In initial talks with Col Cutler and in reviewing the brigade’s historical unit status reports, the 4th ABCT performed as well as can be expected in Afghanistan, but as the onion was peeled back there are numerous organizational issues that were brought to the surface while I walked around and listened to the soldiers of the 4th ABCT, in addition to reviewing the Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) report. Unified Land Operations defines the army operational design methodology (ADM) as “a methodology for applying critical and creative thinking to understand, visualize, and describe unfamiliar problems and approaches to solving them. The operational design methodology incorporated into army doctrine serves as a method to compliment the military decision making process (MDMP). Although the ADM it is often confused with replacing MDMP, its purpose is to address complex problems from a nonlinear approach. ADM helps the commander to answer questions to problems. However, only a collaborative effort of an operation planning team (OPT) will achieve the approach to answering complex problems. Doctrine alone does not provide the answer to complex problems, but rather offers a guide to solve them. To conceptualize the MDMP, planners must incorporate ADM to provide a better understanding, visualization, and description of the problem. The purpose of this paper is to provide the framework to support why ADM is required in the MDMP.

“Operational design is a journey of discovery, not a destination.” Operational design provides a framework, with the guidance of the Joint Force Commander (JFC), that staffs and planning groups can use to give political leaders, commanders, and warfighters a comprehensive understanding of the nature of the problems and objectives for which military forces will be committed, or are planned to be committed. Furthermore, operational design supports commanders and planners to make sense of complicated operational environments (often with ill-structured or wicked problems), helps to analyze wicked problem, and devise an operational approach to solve the problem in the context of the operational environment.

Possessing a shared understanding of the operational environment will aid in our planning process when conducting operations throughout our theater of operation. In every operation we execute we know that we will accept prudent risks, identification and mitigation of those risks will determine our ability to accomplish our mission. Incorporating the principles of mission command by building cohesive teams through mutual trust, fostering an environment of shared understanding, and accepting prudent risk will make me an effective adviser to the commander, aid the staff during the operations process, and provide an example for Soldiers to emulate. My involvement in all aspects of mission command is critical to the success of our organization.
The USEASTCOM AOR is characterized by dynamism and complexity with interlocked problem sets that provide no clear, easy, or quick wins to reverse endemic challenges and instability. The entire theatre requires a robust investment of time, energy and resolve; with short, medium and long term goals to guide us to our desired end state.

It has become a superpower of nations in just about three hundred years, being one of the newest nations in existence today. Its military reaches out into several countries in the globe and holds a presence as a peacekeeper and wielder of democracy. Of the US military’s five branches, the Air Force is the ruler of the skies, keeping control of the earth’s aerospace. Without the Air Force Special Operations, the military could not complete operations as effectively or efficiently as it potentially could.

The Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) is portrayed by other police officers as the “Dirty Harrys” or “very serious bad-ass individuals” (Chambliss, pg. 177). The RDU is a force not to reckon with; These police officers will do whatever it takes to remove illegal weapons and drugs from the hands of criminals. This elite unit mainly patrols poor African American areas, where crime rates are significantly higher. The RDU deals with crime control in three distinct ways: going undercover to bust drug dealers, vehicular stops, and serving warrants. Crime control allows the RDU to play an important role in policing. However, these officers and their methods can create tension between the communities/juveniles and they respond to moral panics. It arises more questions than it answers. Questions such as: the name of the ship, what it had to do with history, whether or not it is real, what it was used for, what kind of ship it is, and if the military used it. From the picture, unless you were on that ship or familiar with it in any way you don’t know. It is just a ship.
