The Economic variable is important within the operational environment because knowing the economy and all it encompass for the location will end with a successful operation. Knowing the infrastructure, finances, and whether there are alternative structures help military personnel had better understand the economic aspects of the location. In addition, knowing the aspects of the economy in an operational environment help military individuals detect the influencing actors in the area. Knowing factors such as underground economies, international trade and institutional capabilities of an area indicates whether the actors will support the existing order. The first thing I would do once I reached theater is locate all the Operational sites and have the Food Inspectors perform inspections so I could gauge the usability of the rations. As a Food Safety Officer, my number one mission when in an operational environment would be to provide wholesome OPRATs for the Soldiers. My second task would be to research the water system. I would need to ensure that military personnel have a reputable and safe water source and hope it would be in the operational area. If water is not viable than I would have to inspected a facility that meet US standards or at least purchase water from the US and have it shipped to the theater. After ensuring that the Ration is available for meals and there is safe water to drink, I would go on the mission of finding fresh foods to replace the OPRATS meals. This part of the mission is very important because we try to find and approve fresh product from the local economy. In turn Commercial facility auditors are time consuming and difficult when trying to find a facility that meet the US standards for Food Producers. This is the stage where certain variable are important to obtaining the needed product. Know whether there is a black-market economy can help we do not want our supplies and product delivered from the US to end up missing. The infrastructure and the terrain is very important as well, knowing if the local food facility can delivered the food in a safe manner and on time will save money and save products from spoilage.
