Cop in the hood is a book about Peter Moskos experience as a police officer in the eastern district of Baltimore. First, as a sociologist at Harvard, he was very curious about the job of Policing. There is a lot of misconception and myth about the job so what a better way to learn than become one? His coworkers were at first wary of the Harvard liberal, expecting him to do a poor job due to being primarily concerned with his research. Police culture is naturally untrustworthy of outsiders as most citizens have no idea what the job is actually like.
The Tamoon Police Department reports a suspect was charged for attempted robbery yesterday, in a bank parking lot in Chucktown.
Getting a police ride along isn’t the easiest form of interview to get. It took me a two week process so I can set up a date to do a ride along. The process includes a background check and the reason why I wanted to do a ride along. The officer gave a strict dress code that I had to follow for that day. Police departments have been stricter on who can do a ride along because there have been incidents were citizens attack the officers while doing the ride along. That is the reason why it takes a while until they approve that you can get one.
The Allison Ville Police Department and its budget would benefit from a change in the questionable practice of preventive patrol to a more community policing for the following reasons. The Allison Ville Police Department would need to deploy fewer officers in a area. This will save the department money by allowing the to spread there personnel out more evenly throughout a 24-hour shift. Yet, the Allison Ville Police Department can schedule heavy amount of foot patrol in a densely populated area or when there is an event. Consequently, a shift to community service would lead to the police officers having more time to complete their task and interact with the community. This will eventually boost the police officer's morale and improve the Allison
On 8-9-2017 at about 0245 hrs I received a call, via my department issued cell phone, from the Auburn Police Department’s Record Department. The call was a pre-recorded message, which advised that I was being requested to responded to the Auburn Police Department as part of the Crime Scene Responds Team. I contacted the Auburn Records Department, who confirmed that I was being requested to responded to the departments as part of the crime scene unit.
Police shootings occur all over the world but are a huge problem within the United States. We continue to hear more and more about them. These shootings are making headlines. Front page news it seems almost weekly. All the shootings go one of two ways. Either a Police Officer has been shot or a Police Officer has shot a citizen, but either way the final result is death. Whether an Officer has been shot or an Officer has shot someone these cases seem to be related to one thing, fear. People in today’s society feel as though they can’t trust Police Officers as they are there to hurt and kill them. And Police Officers feel as though they are in danger of doing their everyday duties because people see them as the “bad guys” and want to hurt or kill them. Yes, police brutality and racism still exist, but not all cops are bad. Yes there are still bad citizens in this world that want to kill and harm others, but not all citizens are bad. People seem to react to these shootings by rioting quickly after a police officer has shot and killed someone without
Sirens were going off. I looked from the passenger seat out of the window of the van. One cop car. My friend and I were getting chased by the police. Will and Sam were the troopers. I was in the passenger seat of a black van, and they were in a black undercover cop car. Good thing I was only playing a game, or else I would probably be in jail!
We are a forty-six man department. Our current make up is 45 white male officers and one female white officer. We police a community that is 17 % black and 5 % Hispanic. Also the people who travel through our community are quite diverse. The Norwood Police Department has been in exsistence since 1888 and during that time there has never been a black officer and there have been a total of three female officers.
I participated in a police ride-along with the Fairfax County Police Department on October 30th. I chose the Fair Oaks District Station for the ride since my home falls within that particular district’s boundaries. At 8 p.m., I was introduced to Officer Crutchman; the police officer I would be accompanying for the night. We headed out after a brief overview of some safety rules and expectations. Over the course of the shift I was able to observe many of the routine duties of a FCPO such as responding to calls, setting speed traps, performing traffic stops, assisting fellow officers, and patrolling neighborhoods and public parks. Officer Crutchman provided valuable insight into police work, beyond the procedural knowledge that Mason classes
Report writing is a form of writing that gives it reader information a type of writing that explain what is taking place or what has taking it a recounting of events . Most newspapers use this type of descriptive recreation of events within their report writing they explain the circumstances of case, court proceeding, type of crime that occurred, etc. (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Newspaper writer try to explain to the readers what took place and why it is or should be topics of concern police report writing follow the same guidelines. Having the ability to write reports is of extreme importance in police and correctional work daily. Report writing is one of the primary forms of communication within the field of law enforcement agency. Police reports are read by supervisors, police chiefs, fellow officers as well as other criminal justice professionals. Furthermore these documents are written to display the result of an investigation, crimes scene, incidents, and more so it is imperative that there is no grammar errors or misspellings with in the document. Police report writers paint the picture of the events that took place from the time they were called until, the time of their arrival to a crime scene or incident. It’s important that all reports submitted by correctional workers and police officer be well-written with factual information giving step by step details of everything that transpired in chronological order also being very specific about every detail. The reason this is of high important is because this report can assist prosecutor in obtaining a valid conviction of the proper suspect accused (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Whereas if the police report is poorly written the defense can argue against the finding and may use the discrepancies against the prosecuting state. When poorly written reports are enter into evident for juries to deliberate on it a huge possibility that the report may cause jurors to call into to question whether the officer who wrote it is as careless in other aspects of their police work. as noted by (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Another issue that will occur if reports are not properly written is miscommunications or misunderstanding. For example a police officer submits a document with only one misspelled words to his police chief, the chief read the report from the officer he put decrease instead of the deceased and cause the chief to send the report the wrong department.
Interviewing can occur in a formal format, such as in a police station, but can also be as simple as a conversation between two, or more, individuals (Holmgren, 2017, p. 12). The purpose of interviewing can vary depending on the situation, but a variety of factors, such as verbal cues, non-verbal cues, and the environment, are all influential parts of the interview (p. 2-5). Interviewing is a crucial part to part of the justice system because it builds a relationship between the participants in a case and can have a impact on the information available in a case (p. 12).

According to Caplan (2003), “cynicism is an inevitable consequence of police work, and a cynic expects nothing but the worst in human behavior” (p.304). When police officers are in uniform most racial minorities see them as a part of an unfeeling institution they can't trust. I believe most police officers are aware of their reality on the streets, but because of frequent danger and the constant reality of staying one step ahead of criminals cause undue cynicism towards the general public. However, research studies has shown this behavior is often more noticeable with veteran officers than newly appointed officers. Next, the ongoing issue of new recruits being rushed through the training academy onto the streets is because there is more crime than available officers to patrol which is one cause of heighten stress for the officers. An example of this comes from a story aired on a local news channel in the
