Newspaper writer try to explain to the readers what took place and why it is or should be topics of concern police report writing follow the same guidelines. Having the ability to write reports is of extreme importance in police and correctional work daily. Report writing is one of the primary forms of communication within the field of law enforcement agency. Police reports are read by supervisors, police chiefs, fellow officers as well as other criminal justice professionals. Furthermore these documents are written to display the result of an investigation, crimes scene, incidents, and more so it is imperative that there is no grammar errors or misspellings with in the document. Police report writers paint the picture of the events that took place from the time they were called until, the time of their arrival to a crime scene or incident. It’s important that all reports submitted by correctional workers and police officer be well-written with factual information giving step by step details of everything that transpired in chronological order also being very specific about every detail. The reason this is of high important is because this report can assist prosecutor in obtaining a valid conviction of the proper suspect accused (Police reports and there purpose (n.d). Whereas if the police report is poorly written the defense can argue against the finding and may use the discrepancies against the prosecuting state. I wanted to look at the investigative and criminal procedures following the arrest of an alleged criminal and the powerful effects via testimonies and evidence (or lack thereof) it can have on a case. There is an importance of the courts in regards to crime that can’t be over looked. The primary function of the criminal justice system is to uphold the established laws, which define what we understand as deviant in this society.
On chapter seven, police corruption and responses are discussed. This chapter provides more detailed discussion of misconduct and corruption. These officers abuse of their position in order to obtain improper financial or another kind of benefits. In addition, the Knapp Commissions identified grass eaters which it means police who passively take advantage of opportunities and meat eaters which mean police who actively commit crimes.
Getting a police ride along isn’t the easiest form of interview to get. It took me a two week process so I can set up a date to do a ride along. The process includes a background check and the reason why I wanted to do a ride along. The officer gave a strict dress code that I had to follow for that day. Police departments have been stricter on who can do a ride along because there have been incidents were citizens attack the officers while doing the ride along. That is the reason why it takes a while until they approve that you can get one.
...olitical game the courts can subliminally promote concerning lawyers and bail. We must turn to the police in bettering their interaction with citizens to promote voluntary cooperation, which can only be done by increasing its legitimacy. I turn to the police selection process in addressing the issue of legitimacy in choosing officers beyond for reason of “crime-fighters”. This, of course, is not an easy thing to do. Rectifying the police selection process to be more particular in choosing officers is difficult especially since, oftentimes, there are few exceptional worthy candidates to choose from. This sort of change would be a long-term aspiration that would take much time and effort in order to be accomplished. Until then, training on current officers should be changed where the Constitution and building community relationships should be of primary importance.
Narrative research is a qualitative methodological approach in research (Bedford & Landry, 2010. Since the early 1980s, narrative inquiry has been emerging in regards to individual life stories. Narrative research, consist of a multiple of approaches, that are apart of social constructionism, which is guided by the philosophical assumptions of an interpretive constructivist paradigm (Patsiopoulos & Buchanan, 2011). Through this qualitative method researchers are able to explore and obtain an understanding about individuals through specific data gathered through interviews.
focus on any other suspects or aspects to the case that may actually be linked to the crime. Unfortunately, tunnel vision is also an unconscious act as well so many officers may not even know that they are experiencing it as well (Rassin 2010). Another thing that is important to the investigation are the police reports that are taken. These reports are highly vital to the case because they talk about everything that happened during the arrest, what types of charges the person may receive, and whether they may need a psychological evaluation. Police reports are also important because the prosecutor heavily relies on them and the defense rarely ever does any investigation of their own. When writing these reports, police officers are usually taught

Police accountability is an effective way to regulate police officer’s behavior. Police accountability is applied in different ways and with different approaches. Some of these approaches include routine supervision, regular performance evaluations and early intervention systems. Police accountability is implemented by using external and internal controls. External controls include citizen complains reports and internal controls consist of early intervention systems. On the other hand, early intervention systems enhance a police officer’s accountability and overall performance. Police accountability refers to holding each police officer individually, as well as the agency as a whole, accountable for effectively enforcing
The focus is on the issues of police accountability in modern society, and in particular why their accountability is more important than other professions. This is not surprising considering the amount of power and discretion police officers have, and the level of trust that the public holds with these civil servants. Police officers accountability is the biggest thing in their profession which has been an issue of concern they have to be accountable to the police department who want the officer to be an effective and responsible person, to people in the community who have best expectation from an officer and being accountable to themselves for their acts. An ordinary citizen of a country cannot obtain the powers that police officer’s have.
Have you ever thought of going to the police academy and serving your community? That’s exactly what my father Jerald Perkett did. Jerald sat down with me at the kitchen and was in his regular work clothes, a quicksilver shirt and jeans. He looked very serious and ready for the interview because he was very familiar with interviews. I looked at him and slowly let out the words, “are you ready?” and the first question came.
We are going to look at the use of interviewing techniques by those who investigate. As a result of interviews conducted after accidents and criminal offenses, the interviewer must be able to analyze witness statements in order to translate witness observations into facts and create logic from confusion. The interviewer must have an understanding of those factors that affect witness reporting. The gathering of witness information comprises about 50 percent of the investigating technique, the remaining 50 percent hinges on the ability of the interviewer to analyze and apply his or her knowledge to the sometimes seemingly unrelated observations of the witness. We shall see that even the most sincere of witness statements may not be reliable without corroborating evidence.
As we may see on television, it may seem as if officers are always out in the field chasing down the criminals but there is more to their jobs than just that. Officer’s jobs also include plenty of documentation. They have to fill out reports about the arrests and the actions that lead up to the arrest. In the past officer used paper and ink pen or even a typewriter to fill out their reports. Now with all the new technology they are ab...
I still remember the look on his face when I told him what happened. He had been in the crime investigation field for years. He was the greatest detective the police force had ever seen. H e had seen things that would scar most people for life and yet he hadn't been bothered at all. But this particular event was different because the victim, was his daughter.
Good communication is essential to how well police officers interact with the public because it influences how the public responds to officers. Listening, speaking, writing and focusing on what others say are all ways officers can affect the way the public views them. A lack of these vital communications skills results in poor understanding, an officer not knowing how to proceed, and people who need police assistance giving up. Officers must also consider how communication might affect a community’s reaction. It is obvious that these traits are very important for optimal police work. Experiences show that people react more calmly and cooperatively when police officers treat them well. Therefore, good communication is needed in order to make the jobs of police officers easier and more positive.
