I graduated from Oakland University in 2010 with Bachelor in Health Science. I have been working at Detroit Medical Center as Medical Technologist (MT) for last 5 years in Clincal Chemistry department. During my experience as a MT, I have realized the importance of the technology in the medical industry. Technology not only helps us to provide effective patient care, but also decrease costs for the provider and patient. With the use of technology, physicians’ orders are entered electronically on rather than on paper using Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE). Using paper costly, time consuming and can cause medical errors. With the introduction of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) which include all patient care data, medication information, their progress notes, lab results. The electronic records allows for the screening of potential medical or clerical errors and problems automatically. Being a Medical Technologist, we have to run blood, urine and other body fluids on sophisticated analyzer in chemistry and toxicology to aid physican in diagnosis and treating diseases. It is impossible to provide excellent care to the patient without technology we have today. Being Health IT, we can help health care professionals to do what they do best: provide excellent care to your patients. Health Information Technology will improve the safety and quality of service provided to the patient and that is the main goal of health care professional as well as it helps in improving the health outcomes, and the health care experience of patients. Being a health care professional I have a desire to improve health care through technology. I want not only want to learn fundamentals and vital aspects in Health Information Technology instead I want to understand and solve real world
