In healthcare, the safety of medical products such as drugs or medical devices play a major role in the wellness of the patient by accurately maintaining and monitoring their progress and health. If there is an issue with a medical product, it puts the life of the patient at risk and jeopardizes the ability of the nursing staff to offer adequate treatment. This paper will discuss how medical product safety affects the patients and the general nursing care given. The factors that influence the safety of a medical product are a patient’s genetic makeup and physiological condition, drug composition (ingredients), manufacturing, and labeling, appropriate use of the product and monitoring for adverse effects. If a medical product is used incorrectly it can cause adverse effects in the patient, which could lead to an allergic reaction, symptoms of accelerated illness or death. By successfully reducing the adverse effects of a medical product it will improve the overall treatment and increase the number of patients who benefit from the medical products resulting in lower disease count.
