Sculpture is the art of carving or modeling different kind of materials. Those materials include metal, marble, wood, clay, etc. However, marble is the most common material. This material has been chosen by most sculptors for its durability and because it is a material that looks good in sculptures. Marble sculptures are everywhere, since many people usually have marble structures at home for decoration or we can see them in churches, parks, museums, etc. Sculptures are considered three-dimensional art. This type of art requires practice, time, and dedication because it is handmade work and it requires the help of a mallet and chisels of different sizes. Although the sculptures are made of different materials, I am marble and I am about to explain some of my characteristics and some of my history.

People who have used me often enjoy the process since the beginning from having me as a marble block to the end when they got a beautiful piece of art. Creating a sculpture requires imagination placed on a marble rock by using your hands and eyes with a combination of dedication, and patience. Sculptors can create statues or figures of any size from large to small according to their creativity. Becoming a sculptor means to learn something new on each project. My limitations as marble are probably that I am an expensive material, it takes a lot of time to create something by using me. I am heavy material, and I am hard to manipulate. Therefore, the person who decides to use me must be careful and patient. They must recognize the proper techniques to handle me, if not their pieces must be a
History plays a very important role in the development of art and architecture. Over time people, events, and religion, have contributed to the evolution of art. Christianity has become a very common and well established religion, however, in the past it was hidden and a few people would worship this religion secretly. Gradually, Christianity became a growing religion and it attracted many converts from different social statuses. Christian art was highly influenced by the Greco-Romans, but it was immensely impacted by the establishment of the Edict of Milan in the year 313 AD. The Edict of Milan was so significant that scholars divide Christian art into two time periods, time before and after the Edict of Milan of 313.

The objects in the Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts are an important historical collection, reflecting the development of a number of art forms in Western Europe. The department's holdings covered sculpture in many sizes, woodwork and furniture, ceramics and glass, jewelry, and tapestries. The gallery attracted my appreciation of the realistic qualities of the human body often portrayed in sculpture.
The trip to the metropolitan museum was a great trip to learn and to study art. What is art you may ask, well art is an expression you use to show a visual picture. It can be through painting or through sculptures. Some other example of art is music, literature and dancing. For today 's paper we will be talking about art as a sculpture. The two sculptures in this photo are King Sahure and a Nome God and Marble Statue of Dionysos leaning on archaistic female figure (Hope Dionysos). You can find these statues in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. King Sahure and a Nome God is an Egyptian art that was made in 2458-2446 BCE. The artist is unknown. It was during the 5th dynasty and it also belong to the old kingdom. The Marble statue of Dionysos Leaning in the archaistic female figure is a Greco-Roman art. Belonging to the Roman imperial period of the late first century A.D. Augustan or Julio-Claudian period 27 B.C., to 68 AD. It is classified as a stone sculpture and it is made out of marble. The height of the statues is 82 ¾ inches. There is no evidence who was the original artist.
I think there are many great short stories with great themes and life lessons, for example Marble Champ. In the story “Marble Champ” by Gary Soto, I think Lupe is very admirable. She is admirable because she is a very hard worker, and a good sport, not only is she a hard worker and a good sport she is also very intelligent. In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying many art pieces of oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European decent and American decent between the mid 1700’s and the early 1900’s. The painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee-Lebrun caught my eye and drew me in to look closely at its composition.

This sculpture just like the colossus statue of Zeus was made of gold and ivory and had various mythological engravings in her shield, helmet and pedestal.

While doing my research on Marela Zacarias, my eyes have opened up more when it comes to art. I’ve come to like sculptures more than I do portraits. I like that you can actually feel the outlining and curves of a sculpture than you would a flat surface portrait. The thing I love most about Zacarias’s sculptures, is that it’s so unique and comes at you with beautiful colors and patterns. It also seems as if it were a linen drapes coming at you or a linen bed cover drying outside and the wind is blowing it, causing it to get that rippled effect. Art can be many things in one’s eyes. Although the Greek artists had limited materials, they still created gorgeous sculptures; similarly, the Roman sculptors adapted the techniques from the Greeks in order to create magnificent works for their own purposes.
