I chose the “Marble Shatters Drinking Glass” painting since it had a lot of meaning to me. I see a shattered drinking glass with glass and a marble flying. Edward Ruscha created this artwork. This artwork is a painting and it made out of oil on canvas. The name of this artwork is “Marble Shatters Drinking Glass”.
“Marble shatters drinking glass” was created in 1968. The other major events in 1968 were the day MLK was assassinated. Apollo 8 was the first mission to orbit the moon. The objects that are in the painting is one marble and the broken glass and its shattered pieces. I notice the shattered glass with the pieces flying back and forward. This means that life has it’s up and down and you can react anyway you know that will help you. The meaning to me is you will struggle with a lot of things as you get older and you got to control it. This relates to me that my life is up and down a lot since I was young with all the struggles I had. I feel happy when I look at it because it makes me think about that life will go on without you wanting it to stop it all the time.
I think the marble is a struggle person and the drinking glass is the person’s life. The shattered pieces are the struggles that the person has gone through. He wanted to show that you can create painting using everyday objects. Also that a lot of everyday objects can be a symbol for anything you feel. He created this artwork because he was struggling with something and wanted to show it. The value of this work is that it is conveying a message saying that things happen for a reason and that you can’t control what happens in your life. The work definitely has a benefit for others, since they might understand like me with all the messages it shows. This work communicates an idea that would value for others.
