Many would argue on the topic of Machiavelli and his advice for people who are looking to have power and maintain it which is mentioned in "The Prince".The argument is whether Machiavelli's ideas can be used in todays society or not.Machiavelli brings up in his writings about people in the past, and uses them as an example to show how his tactics he brings forth worked and helped rulers maintain a steady kingdom.Machiavelli talks on how a prince should be towards his enemies and friends.His advice pretty mcuh relies on not trusting just anybody.Many would agree and say that Machiavelli's ideas can definetly be used in todays society.Especially with the leaders we have today such as presidents , mayors , government etc., as well as the allies and its allies.American has one of the best army so if other countries are in trouble and we are their "allies" , they can benefit off that and ask for help from a good army system.So this goes to show that you cant trust even your friends because you dont know if they are just with you to eat off your success and power.This would apply with a leader trying to gain power and maintain it because a person who is trying to maintain power shouldnt have someone who will bring Another way in how Machiavelli's ideas can take part in todays world is when dealing with politics.To keep the country in tact and in order there has to be some sort of ruthlessness.in text 3 it says "We are still drawn to Machiavelli because we sense how impatient he was with the equivalent flummery in his own day, and how determined he was to confront a problem that preoccupies us too: when and how much ruthlessness is necessary in the world of politics"(text 3 lines 42-45).Even today people acknowledge Machiavelli's ideas because even in politics there has to be some of Machiavelli's ideas put forth to keep order.If a certain group such as governent falls, the whole nation will fall and there will be complete and total caos.This would be a reason why and how Machiavelli's ideas would be put forth in todays society. On the other hand, some people may say that Machiavelli's ideas were for people in the past time and cannot be used in todays society.According to text 2 one of Machiavelli's quotes came up about being feared more than loved and the response to that was " A leader must build his relationship with the people upon mutual respect, more than any other thing.
