According to this assessment, I am high in both consideration of behavior and initiating structure when working in a group setting since I answered “mostly true” on every question evaluated. Consideration behavior, by definition, refers to a level of sensitivity toward how other members of the group may feel. Alternatively, initiating structure focuses more toward driving the group to finish tasks and meet deadlines. Honestly, I am not at all surprised that I scored high on both leadership orientations, especially since the majority of my previous leadership experience was in a veterinary hospital. If an individual demonstrates strengths in the orientation of initiating structure, for instance, that person may be better off pursuing a position in management, where they can perhaps direct or organize tasks, maintain schedules, and manage finances for example. If the individual measures high in consideration orientation, however, they may be off pursuing a career where they can work with directly with followers and/or subordinates. Being high on both orientations, however, is a true benefit since leadership is perceived as a continuum and those high on either leadership style may be more adaptable in the workplace or within an …show more content…

As I have mentioned in some of my earlier journal entries, the majority of my strengths have always been in areas where detailed planning and/or organization was a necessity. Likewise, if I had to choose one of the quadrants that did not accurately fit my own style of thinking than I would have said Quadrant-D since I do not feel I am overly imaginative or creative in the least. What I don’t agree with, though, is the textbook definitions of the quadrants and how demonstrating a high preference for Quadrant-B seemingly narrows downs my flexibility in leadership
