On August 23, 1980 in Conroe, Texas, is 40 miles north of Houston, a 16-year-old girl, Cheryl Fergeson, disappeared while searching for a women’s restroom at Conroe High School (Gores, 1991). Cheryl was the manager of the Bellville High girls’ volleyball team visiting Conroe High School for a preseason scrimmage. Later that day while searching for the girl two janitors, Clarence Brandley who is black, and Henry Peace who is white, found the girl’s body hidden under some scenery flats in the loft above the auditorium stage. Cheryl has been raped and strangled to death. Clarence and Henry were interrogated and made to sign statements. Question 1: a) Donna Gamble is an Aboriginal woman who lives in her hometown of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She is a former ward of the state and has spent a significant part of her youth inside juvenile correction centres. At a young age she started using drugs and alcohol as a form of escape and resorted to prostitution as a means of sustaining her habits. Donna has six children, all with the exception of the youngest two who were placed in the custody of child services. Donna has quit working as a prostitute and is currently on the road to recovery from years of addiction and abuse.
There are many women who are currently in an abusive relationship, or have been in an abusive relationship. The most common reason these women do not leave their abuser is because they are scared, financial, or family reasons. Amy McGee would be alive today to tell her own story if her situation was handled differently.
Reading this book has been interesting and heartbreaking experience. A Year of Magical Thinking, a journey through the grieving process. While dealing with the death of her husband, she is confronted with the sickness of her only child. This book touches me, and it makes me think of what would happen if my loved one died. This paper is a reflection of my thoughts and feelings about this woman’s journey that has been explored by book and video. I will also explore the author’s adjustment process, and how she views her changed self.
My mother was a complex, multi-faceted person. Many of you here today knew my mother personally, and many of you knew my mother indirectly through one of her family members. You may have known her as a coworker, a friend, or a support person. Of course, all of my mother’s family here today each knew a part of her, a “facet” of her--as a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a cousin.
Ashley Davis is a 14 year-old, brown-skinned, African-American, masculine presenting female. Ashley’s mother reports that patient is defiant, especially toward her and other authority figures. Mother reports that Ashley’s behavior disrupts the family, her ability to achieve in school and has landed her in legal trouble. Mother reports that the Ashley began to exhibit sexually promiscuous behavior starting as early as 9 years old. Her reason for referral and placement on the unit was due to Ashley’s mother, finding her and her twin brother naked together in a sexualized position, all while trying to record this interaction. When the mother questioned both Ashley and her brother, it seemed as though the Ashley was the aggressor.
Sandra Lombardino is a recently retired school teacher facing a multitude of crisis’ regarding her personal life and growth. Sandra has a strong desire to vacation and enjoy her retirement via travel and volunteering, however there are barriers that will not allow those things to occur. Sandra is unhappily married to Benedito, an offensive and abusive long-time alcoholic. The couple shares four children, all of which are estranged because of Benedito’s abusive behavior. Though Sandra is overweight and has arthritis, Benedito is the only thing holding her back from achieving her retirement dreams. Sandra has thought about leaving Benedito on many occasions but realizes that he will be entitled to half of her money

The characters in Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones are faced with the difficult task of overcoming the loss of Susie, their daughter and sister. Jack, Abigail, Buckley, and Lindsey each deal with the loss differently. However, it is Susie who has the most difficulty accepting the loss of her own life. Several psychologists separate the grieving process into two main categories: intuitive and instrumental grievers. Intuitive grievers communicate their emotional distress and “experience, express, and adapt to grief on a very affective level” (Doka, par. 27). Instrumental grievers focus their attention towards an activity, whether it is into work or into a hobby, usually relating to the loss (Doka par. 28). Although each character deals with their grief differently, there is one common denominator: the reaction of one affects all.

When Kathy tells a patient about Hailsham she says, “There have been times over the years when I’ve tried to leave Hailsham behind […] But then there came a point where I just stopped resisting” (Ishiguro 5). And, just like Kathy, they want to live in her stories because they don’t want to be reminded of where they came from and “instead [they] wanted to hear about Hailsham” (5). She often uses words like ‘baffling’ or ‘wasn’t clear’ which indicates that her memory is still foggy. However, Kathy continues to narrate her story in order for her to come to an understanding about her life as memory is her only source of foundation.
Aileen Wuornos was a serial killer , and thief between the years 1989 and 1990. She killed seven men as a prostitute and hitchhiker on I 95 through Florida. The men she killed were all ages of 40-65, all white males. She only killed men due to her hatred of them originating in her early childhood sexual abuse by her father / grandfather. Aileen began life as a prostitute at only the age of 11, asking for cigarettes and spare change for sexual deeds. It was also acknowledged that she had sexual relations with her brother , Keith, at a young age. At the age of 13 Aileen got pregnant , and was sent away to a girls home by her grandparents ( adoptive parents Lauri and Britta Wuornos ) for her to give birth and
Lisa as a young teen begins to manage her special gift to connect with spirits by progressing from the motivation her grandmother gave her to grasp a stronger understanding of what she spiritually obtains. Lisa’s grandmother encourages her to learn about the spirit world and the consequences that follow, to make sure her mistakes don’t mislead her, “Never trust the spirit world too much. They think much differently from the living.”(Robinson, 153). Ma ma oo (Lisa’s grandmother) ensures that Lisa is provided with the knowledge of the supernatural world at her current age so she will be prepared for the future and along with that she wants her to being to learn about herself through these teachings and develop from them. Considering that the bond between Lisamarie and her grandmother is already well established it makes the understanding and communication of the spirit world more interesting for her. Rosa Lee Cunningham is a 52-year old African American female. She is 5-foot-1-inch, 145 pounds. Rosa Lee is married however, is living separately from her husband. She has eight adult children, Bobby, Richard, Ronnie, Donna (Patty), Alvin, Eric, Donald (Ducky) and one child who name she did not disclose. She bore her eldest child at age fourteen and six different men fathered her children. At Rosa Lee’s recent hospital admission to Howard University Hospital emergency room blood test revealed she is still using heroin. Though Rosa Lee recently enrolled in a drug-treatment program it does not appear that she has any intention on ending her drug usage. When asked why she no longer uses heroin she stated she doesn’t always have the resources to support her addiction. Rosa Lee is unemployed and receiving very little in government assistance. Most of Horney’s theories came from clinical experiences. With her vivid experience, she able to describes virtually and contribute to practitioners in a wide knowledge especially in neurotic personality. Horney’s comprehensive descriptions of neurotic personalities provide an excellent framework for understanding unhealthy people. In that extent, there is no other personality theorist has written so well about neuroses (Psychology, 2016).
