Business ethics are moral values that guide and direct the way a business behaves. Look at it in this way, the same values that determine an individual’s actions also apply to the business world. Acting in an ethical way is quite simply the difference between a “right” and a “wrong” and then making the “right” choice. Therefore building a base of ethical behavior allows for a long lasting positive effect for a company. Wal-Mart stated the company dismissed Roehm due to the fact that she violated the company's code of ethics by accepting gifts from vendors and because she had inappropriate relations with a subordinate. In a lawsuit against the company, Roehm had denied the charges and stated that other Wal-Mart executives have received gifts from vendors. The result all of this has also led to something of a consumer backlash : Many people will “no longer shop” at Wal-Mart simply because they don't want to support a company that they feel is unfair to its employees as well as damaging for the economy.
