My name is Josiah R. Johnson,and am a lieutenant in the war against the king and his unfair taxes. We advanced under the command of Benedict Arnold Who later turned traitor for his love of money and wealth. We have ninety casualties two-hundred and forty wounded. Four hundred casualties six thousand two hundred and twenty-two people have been captured of the British . We have harassed the British army and drove back one of the most important groups of soldiers to fight against the smaller part of them as an advantage. We kept them at bay as to fight off the smaller army then allow them to advanced and be captured at the battle field. There were only five thousand eight hundred men were left of his giant army and we captured them with the utmost of ease. This has proved to the French who at first was only supplying us to fight alongside of us. …show more content…

Jack Sisson was born in 1743 in an unknown place. He was a man of many names, such as Guy Watson from South Kingston or Prince Goodwin from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Sisson was a black man in the American revolutionary war who was part of the Rhode Island First Regiment (an army of colored men) along with 40 troops of African American males. He was a slave before he joined the Regiment in 1778, where he was a boat pilot. Under the command of Colonel William Barton, Sisson completed his most daring mission yet: the capture of General Richard Prescott, a general of British forces in Newport. The Revolutionary War was the most dramatic occurrence in America's long, tragic, and amazing history. After all, it was the technical beginning of the country we live in today. When starting out, America had virtually no navy. This changed because of John Paul Jones. Jones was the revolutionary war's first naval commander, and is known as the "Father of the American Navy." Though he started out as not a very rich man, Jones became a naval commander for both America and Russia. He was very charming, but he had a horrible temper that tended to get him in trouble. At one point he was in such deep of trouble that he was charged for murder, but then acquitted soon after. This is just one of the murders Jones was [allegedly, for the previous one, on account of his acquittal] involved in. The second murder he committed happened on the ship Betsy in the West Indies, where he killed the ringleader of a mutiny with his sword in a dispute over wages. He was forced to flee to Virginia, where he changed his name first to John Jones, then to John Paul Jones. Though he seems like a horrible mass murderer, he really wasn't. He had his good points in history. For example, he "started" the American navy and he performed a hit and run raid on Whitehaven.

The book travels through Franklin’s experiments, his travels in Europe, and his role in the American revolution. The book begins when Franklin retires from business and becomes a gentleman. It was when he became a gentleman, it allowed him to analyze the world around him. “Indeed, he could not drink a cup of tea without wondering why the tea leaves at the bottom gathered in way rather than another,” a quote from Edmund S. Morgan’s book, Benjamin Franklin. Franklin spent a great deal of time in Britain before returning to America. When he returned, he threw himself into the American revolution, which sent him to France. After he accomplished his duties in France, he returned back home to America where he ran for public office.
Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers to the United States, was not a patriot but a mere loyalist to England before the dissolution between England and the colonies occurred. Sheila L. Skemp's The Making of a Patriot explores how Benjamin Franklin tried to stay loyal to the crown while taking interest in the colonies perception and their own representation in Parliament. While Ms. Skemp alludes to Franklin's loyalty, her main illustration is how the attack by Alexander Wedderburn during the Privy Council led to Franklin's disillusionment with the British crown and the greater interest in making the Thirteen Colonies their own nation. Her analysis of Franklin's history in Parliament and what occurred on the night that the council convened proves the change behind Franklin's beliefs and what lead to his involvement in the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. Benjamin Franklin was the colonial agent representing Massachusetts in Parliament in Britain.
“Join, or Die.” “Don’t Tread on Me.” These are two mottos often used by Revolutionary supporters and fighters from about 1754 to 1783, and even sometimes today it is still used. These were battle cries that patriotic men would scream with all their might before charging onto the battlefield, where they might take their last breath. Nearly five thousand men gave their lives, for freedom’s sake. Their sacrifices were not done in vain, as the war was ended on September 3rd, 1783. This sense of victory and accomplishment is what lead these new Americans to further establishing their country, making their mark on history, and creating a new identity for themselves, as free men and woman.

During the War for American Independence, 78 men were commissioned as general officers into the Continental Army by the Continental Congress. Many of these generals commanded troops with differing levels of competence and success. George Washington is typically seen as most important general, however throughout the war a number of his subordinates were able to distinguish themselves amongst their peers. One such general was Nathanael Greene. At the end of the Revolutionary War, Greene would become Washington’s most important subordinate, as demonstrated by Edward Lengel’s assessment of Greene as “the youngest and most capable of Washington’s generals.” Washington and Greene developed a strong, positive and close relationship between themselves. Greene began his life in the military after having been raised a Quaker. With limited access to literature and knowledge in his younger years, Greene became an avid reader which equipped him with the knowledge necessary to excel as a general during the war. Through his devoted study of military operations, firsthand experience and natural abilities as a soldier, Greene became an excellent military commander. He would become known for his successful southern campaign, during which, he loosened British control of the South and helped lead the war to its climax at Yorktown. Throughout the war, he was involved in a number high profile battles where he built a reputation of being an elite strategist who also understood unconventional warfare, logistics, and the importance of military-civil affairs and had a natural political/social acumen. Thomas Jefferson had many factions pushing and pulling on him. On one side a Federalist who was quoted by saying “We are to give money of which we have too little for land which we have too much.” (Greenspan pg. 2) On the other Jefferson had War Hawkes and farmers who wanted to go to war over the New Orleans. The most noted of whom was Alexander Hamilton who wrote under a pen name, Pericles, saying “The United States should seize at once Florida and New Orleans and then negotiate.” (Greenspan pg. 3) Thomas Jefferson possibly saved the nation from a premature civil war. His common sense, knowledge, and ability to negotiate all played a major part in the forming of a new country. Benjamin Franklin's ability to compromise often helped prevent large disputes which could have stalled the new government from forming.
