Jenelle Wong MD has a passion for treating allergies and asthma
Childhood experiences inspired Jenelle Wong MD to become a pediatrician. According to the Plano pediatrician, “my sister had eye surgery at a young age, and I shared a room with her growing up. I enjoyed taking care of her during her recovery, which inspired me to become a pediatrician.”
Dr. Wong loves all aspects of pediatrics, but she especially enjoys treating children for allergies and asthma. “My three siblings and I suffered from allergies and asthma. In fact, two of us ended up in the emergency room for asthma attacks. I never want another child or parent to go through that experience,” she said.

She then completed her three year specialty training in pediatrics at the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center in 1999.
She spent a year as a Plano pediatrician in solo practice before merging her practice with Pediatric Specialists of Plano (PSOP) in April 2001. Throughout her pediatric medical career, she has educated parents and treated children of all ages for many physical and behavioral conditions ranging from such as allergies and asthma, colds/influenza, ear infections, sinus infections, croup, RSV bronchiolitis, gastroenteritis, to and ADHD. “I love all aspects of pediatrics. Making a difference in the lives of parents and children is so rewarding,” she said.

My duty as a full time MA allows me to be more involved with a patient 's medical care as I am able to assist clinicians with their allergy testing procedures. With this, I have been able to shadow PAs in a more community based setting where the PA-patient interaction is more prolonged and detailed. Knowing my interest in the field, PAs often discuss more complicated allergy cases with me, allowing me to understand the reasoning process that precedes diagnosing a specific allergy condition. I have more closely worked with Sara Lynn, a dedicated PA to the allergy practice who has further motivated me in my efforts to become a PA. Her approachable persona allows me to be comfortable in asking questions about medical conditions I am unaware of and through her advice, I have learnt a lot about the PA
While shadowing at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, I was able to witness numerous specialties over the course of three years. These included plastic surgery (MD), cardiology (MD), pediatric surgery (MD), sports medicine (DO), and otolaryngology (MD). During my time as an observer, I was able to witness multiple different surgeries and ask physicians questions regarding the procedures. Additionally, I was able to experience out-patient care and routine follow ups which allowed me to see a different perspective than I witnessed in the operating room.

Most of you may not think of asthma as a killer disease, yet more that 5,000 Americans die of asthma each year. I first became interested in the field of oncology because cancer is one of the leading causes of death in children. Anyone can be vulnerable to cancer, regardless of age or lifestyle, and the treatment process and the road to recovery, if there is one, can be long and taxing. My interest in the field deepened as I came to appreciate the impact and difference that a physician can make in the lives of patients and families during those times.
From treating kids to reassuring anxious parents, I have found all aspects of pediatric speciality interesting. During my time with 'shaishav organization ' and ‘Smile foundation’ gave me a strong grounding in many of the roles and responsibilities of pediatrician and has definitely been a life altering experience. When introducing myself I will get called many different names before they actually get it right. I may get call April, Annie, Amber, Sara, Linda and yes i've even Ruby. Nope it's none of those, it's Amy. Amy Lynn Greenlee is my name. My mother and father agreed on my first name since my mother loved the French meaning of it. Its meaning is dearly loved; beloved. My father wanted me to be called, Amy Ann, to continue the initials A. A. G. going through the family, but my mother shot that idea down very quickly. So the name I was given means, dearly loved waterfall or beloved waterfall. Would I change it? Probably not, my mother gave the girl version of my great grandfathers middle name. Which who passed away a few months before I was born. Hes passing took place on August 23, 1999, causing my mother who was seven month pregnant to grieve up until October 12 of that year. That's when I was born.
There are are many different careers in the medical world, my favorite being a pediatrician. I have always loved being around little kids and making them laugh which is one of the main reasons why I want to be a pediatrician. I’ve wanted to be a pediatrician since I was 11 years old; many of my friends would laugh because they didn’t think I was capable of becoming a doctor, but like my mom says “when you want something, don’t give up until you have it”. A pediatrician is a doctor who treats infants,children, and young adults. They diagnose and treat diseases, injuries and much more(asthma, allergies,etc). But being a pediatrician requires so much dedication and hard work , and I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m willing to do it.
Many disparities of asthma start at early stages among children in Oakland. For example, a report by the Health and Education Outcomes and Indicators indicated that many boys than girls were more likely to get asthma attacks at young stages of their life. This has caught the attention of schools and families to enhance proper monitoring of students, ensuring a healthy start in life so as to prepare the children for and be successful in schools. In addition, ensuring collaboration between schools and health care providers to ensure asthma medication is available at all places. This aims to increase contact and relationship between asthma-stricken persons and health cares. It also enhances awareness skills to schools and understanding of asthma. Moreover, provision of education with the aim of changing the cultural beliefs among residents. Educational awareness is the key to address situational crises by getting closer to both individuals in the society. Education helps in creating a different perception of the long-held beliefs and thus enhances a good environment to fight asthma
Each day, medical research is taken to new and improved levels changing life as we know it. The experiments grow ─along with technology─ and shape this world for the better. Since no one in this world is alike, treatments are being discovered to take care of patients in their own ways. To fit with all these differentiated needs, healthcare has been broken up into multiple categories. Each section is specifically responsible for the unique care of patients but the end goal over all, is the same (treating others). One of the best known units of healthcare that is needed today is Pediatrics. Children under the age of five in America receive better healthcare from their pediatrician than an average family doctor. The specialist in the medical field came to this conclusion by stating that a pediatrician has the specialized knowledge needed in caring for the youth population. As I prove this study to be factual, my research paper will explain how pediatrics came about over time, how much of an alteration there is between a pediatrician and a family doctor, and why this particular care is essential to all children.
At a very young age I realized I had a love for children. This love was a result of me being around my young cousins. It was so intriguing to watch their behavior on a daily basis. They always yearned for attention, and used many smart tactics to receive it. Throughout the years, I never found it to be a problem to respond to their needs. In fact, it was a joy. However, when they were sick, I knew I wanted to help them, but did not always have the answers. I was able to comfort them, but my yearning to help ran deeper than comfort. Therefore, I wanted my career path to enable me to help sick and well children. Pursuing a career as a pediatrician would fulfill my desires of being able to work and advocate for children, and gaining my Master’s through this program would be a positive step towards that goal.
