I agree with many aspects of the different perspectives within sociology. Through my applied experience I have gained an awareness of the various social issues within our community and have developed insight into the numerous crisis problems individuals within our community experience on a daily basis. As mentioned above many people within our community do not recognize the various issues that are taking place within the community as they are not directly affected, some possess an awareness of poverty by what is observed in the media or what is communicated to them by their distinct culture. As there are various issues encountered at the crisis hotline, there would be many structural changes that would have to be implemented within society to assist in reducing such social problems. Changes such as safe houses for abuse victims, increase in law enforcement officials to respond to domestic violence, an increase in social workers to react promptly to reports of child abuse can assist in alleviating negative temperaments. Also, an increase in police substations in impoverished neighborhoods could reduce the potential for criminal and gang activity, as well as, re-calculation of the poverty guidelines to increase income limits to assist the working poor with food programs may bridge the gap from committing crimes as a method of monetary gain to pay for food. More importantly, an increase in homeless shelters and re-housing programs to reduce homelessness. An increase of employment opportunities for mental health and social workers to assist the mentally ill and other individuals that suffer from adverse effects, with obtaining a meaningful life within the community. Establishing particular work opportunities specially designed for the homeless population to reduce poverty and provide financial opportunities for our homeless populace. I have experienced victims of abuse, assisted the homeless population, provided intervention to individuals experiencing severe depression and anxiety, have linked individuals to agencies that can provide food, and have been confidant to numerous people in fear for their life and who are in need of emotional support, empathetic listening, and intervention. I have experienced the darkest parts of society through callers, and through them developed a sign of respect for the struggles that go unnoticed.
