“Is major exploration really worth the risk?” That question has been asked by many people. I believe that it is worth the risk. First, there are many health and medicine related benefits that come from exploration. Also, when people explore, new things can be found that will help humans out economically. Finally, even though it can be difficult, there will be major benefits. That is why major exploration is worth the risk. Major exploration has many health and medicine related benefits. John F. Kennedy wrote a speech about exploring space, and talks about many benefits that will come with it. JFK states that “[...] medical space research may open up new understanding to man’s relation to his environment.” (JFK, p. 186). When people explore different places, we may be able to understand more about our general well-being, and make new medicines based on the results. Philippe Cousteau also wrote a commentary called “Why Exploring the Ocean is Mankind’s Next Giant Leap”. In this, Cousteau states that “Consider that AZT, an early treatment of HIV, is derived from a Caribbean reef sponge.” (Cousteau, p. 194). Treatments for dangerous diseases and health problems may be able to be made from exploring places. Not only will exploring benefit just our health, though. Exploring can lead to changes in the economy and Earth, such as finding energy that people can use in water and wind. Discoveries that people make can also lead to new jobs and better goods (Cousteau). People can find healthier and better goods when they explore, which could also lead to more jobs if the supply and demand of items increase.
