College tuition bills have always been a big controversy topic for years due to the fact that costs are constantly rising. Many individuals can not afford to pay between 20-60 thousand dollars per year to attend college and get a degree, so now people are leaning toward not going to college period. In the article, "Is College Worth the Cost. Many Recent Graduates Don't Think So," Jeffrey J. Selingo emphasizes good points that many college graduates don't think that getting a college degree is worth the money and stress; however, Selingo does not explain the weight behind a college degree and what it can do for one's future.

The article puts a majority of the focus on the amount of stress and anxiety college puts on families. In the quote, “The need for a college education is even more important now than it was before, but I think that the increased costs are a very severe obstacle to access. It is an American dream, and I think that one of our challenges is to find a way to make that available” (Romer), it is touched on that getting a bachelor's degree has turned more into an american dream rather than a necessity. If a person wants to go to college then they will find a way to make it happen, but if they don't then they won't. Not only is the cost an uphill battle, but applying and getting into college is a battle itself. Having a decent GPA and high test scores are necessary to get into a lot of well- rounded colleges. According to, The Atlantic,” college is getting slightly harder to get into each year, which is leading to students making the decision to defer a semester or even a year. The points made in the article appeal to me because of simple fact that I am a teenager that doesn’t have a job and I depend on my parents for money to live life. How am I supposed to pay thousands of dollars for college when I can barely afford a mac and cheese from Panera? He points out that a bachelor's degree is the ticket to a job out of college, but does not expand on it. According to the article, “Do College Grads Have Real Jobs Waiting?” over half of the students that get a college degree in the field that they studied get a job right after college. If Selingo were to put this in his article it would make it stronger because it gives a valid fact on the amount of students that actually get a real job after college. Also, he doesn’t go in depth on why a bachelor's degree is so important. In the article, “Why is a Bachelor's Degree so Important,” there are four main reasons to get a bachelor's degree. First, a degree will give a student professional credibility, which will look better on a job resume. Next, a person will get better job performing skills. Getting more education gives more skills and knowledge in the field that a student would like to pursue. Also, it gives more stability for a person's future. Lastly, the student will get increased earnings in the job that they chose. The applicant with the higher education and more knowledge is more likely to get the job. Selingo leaves out these important details that will give a student more of an idea why people get a college degree in the first place. These points would make the article more compelling and significantly
