In the practice of social work, working with the client to identify areas of concern is one of the steps to achieve change. In this process, it is necessary to actively collaborate with client and to work as a team in the process of change. Most of the client’s social workers encounter will experience ambivalence and resistance to chance. However, being able to gain their trust should facilitate one of the most vulnerable and important stages of counseling, goal setting. During the intervention process, it is necessary to develop a focus point that will be driven the work between social worker and client. Chapter 12, provides the necessary material and guidance of goal setting. In this chapter I was able to learn step by step the process, requirement, strategies, as well areas of caution when working with client in achieving the desire behavior our outcome. It also gave clear example of how to deal with involuntary clients as well as formulating a contract. If this is the case, the prioritization of short-term and long-term goals is imperative to avoid miscommunication and confusion. These goals will identify the client’s agreement, will give direction and focus, while allowing the developing of specific strategies and interventions.
