Good Afternoon Ms. Zouki and fellow classmates. This is my representation of one of the most memorable scenes in the romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the balcony scene. In the balcony scene, the type of conflict being communicated is man vs self or also known as an internal conflict. The internal conflict is drawn within Juliet and is mainly about considering why Romeo, the one she loves, is a Montague.

“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.” One of the most well-known quotes in the play can hold so much meaning behind it. In context, Juliet is saying this without knowing Romeo is standing below her balcony listening to her. Through the perpetuation of tenacious language techniques, it takes the view that she is struggling to decide between her love for Romeo and her loyalty towards her family. Consequently, resulting in conflict with herself.
Now let's consider what creative decisions I’ve made to capture internal conflict in my diorama. Essentially, as for lighting, I have chosen a more dark and dimmed atmosphere due to the fact that I wanted it to show vulnerability to both Romeo and Juliet and have a sense that they are experiencing conflict. On the other hand, I have selected to make the setting as a brick wall as this pinpoints that Juliet has just hit a wall and is feeling stuck as she does not know what direction to head in.
