Six years ago I almost lost my father because of a lung complication due to improper safety equipment at his workplace. We had been to every doctor out there and for the longest time a lot of them would just tell him that he was fine and nothing, was wrong with him. Then one doctor looked in the right area and finally figured out what was wrong with him. He had taken pills after pills and nothing was making him feel better. He couldn’t work, and trust me that man has to work. He was growing depressed because he just wanted to be better. With the pills came more complications and even more pills. Some people believe since it is all in your mind and that your mind controls everything, things like hypnosis can help the body’s immune system and fight off diseases. Now some more common well-used forms of CAM include acupuncture, homeopathy, and naturopathy. These types of CAM are more commonly known than the others and have been around longer. But just because they were around longer doesn’t mean that they are commonly practice in the medical field. Acupuncture, for example, dates back to China two thousand years ago, but still isn’t something you can find done in the hospitals. Some more examples of CAM that are used more frequently are homeopathy and naturopathy. Homeopathy is the first form of alternative medicine, which was the idea that if you actually give someone a less fatal form of a disease they will be immune form the fatal disease. This was a form of alternative medicine because in the seventieth century, it sounded odd to give a disease to a healthy person so they would be immune. This, in modern day, is what a vaccine is. Naturopathy is more of an alternative medicine than homeopathy, even in this modern society.
