Treat your food like it has treated you! Food is one of the most important basic needs for the survival of all living beings. It is one of the most common things that we share within the animal kingdom and it is also what sets us apart. Humans have come a long way by evolving from primitive primates to the advanced species with a conscience. Likewise, our food has evolved from primitive uncooked leaves and flesh to supreme dishes such as bread, burger and yummy chicken fried rice. Knowing the importance of our food as informed consumers and knowing how to consume it properly should be our first priority as human beings. My father who works in the UN mission in the South Sudan (UNMIS), tells me horror stories of people dying like flies due to hunger every second in the region he is working if I waste my food. It should not be viewed as a waste of time or money because it is not an intensively hard process. If people can afford to have time to watch cook shows and celebrity chefs, why is it so hard to spend some more time trying to prepare their own meal? This is something we don’t think about because the availability of the food and mass media has clouded our judgment (Bittman).Many stories have been passed throughout the generations when people use to prepare their own meals with close friends and family. These stories are what separates us from the rest of the beings in the animal kingdom (Ruhlman). Nearly two-thirds of the people in the US are grabbing fast food once a week and getting almost twenty-five percent of calories from snacks that are very unhealthy snacks. Preparing food is one of the most satisfying sources of comfort, pride, health, relaxation and social experience (Bittman).
