Over several decades, the development of making foods has evolved. They have changed from natural to processed foods in recent years. Nowadays natural ingredients are barely used in the making of foods like bread, cheese, or yogurt. The food industry today has replaced natural food making with inorganic ingredients. The cause of this switch is due to processed foods being easier, cheaper and faster to make. Artificial nutrition and processed foods have been proven to last longer in market shelves then natural foods. Also, due to artificial additives in processed foods they help satisfy consumers taste more than natural ingredients. The method of producing processed foods is common in today's food industry and helps make money faster and efficiently for companies. Examples of this can be found in all markets that distribute food. Even though processed foods may be easier and faster to make, they are nowhere near as healthy for consumers compared to natural foods. Natural foods are healthier, wholesome, and beneficial to the human body and planet then processed foods. Natural foods are described as whole foods that are grown in gardens, and are unprocessed and unrefined. The downside of natural foods is that they have a shorter shelf life then processed foods. Recently there has been a debate on whether organic and natural produce are healthier alternatives to commercial produce. Since this debate began, there are now grocery stores dedicated to providing products that are all essentially all natural or organic. Various examples of these grocery stores include Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Safeway, and Super Target. Skeptics of this argument suggest natural and organic food industries are all marketing ploys targeted toward consumers in search of healthier food choices. The final question we must ask ourselves to get to the bottom of this debate is: Are organic and natural foods actually more beneficial or are they just a marketing hoax?
Over a period the human body can develop a series of sicknesses when it intakes an excessive amount of artificial food, these sicknesses may include cancer, ADHD, and obesity. Most grocery stores now sell food products labeled “organic” due to the increase in demand. Organic food became popular in the 1990’s and has since remained on anupward trend. Although there are more and more supermarkets stocking organic food products on their shelves, non-organic food products seem to outnumber the amount of organic food products. Organic food products are labeled with a green and brown sticker that says USDA ORGANIC. When most Americans see this label they think that what they are buying is better than the average product. But do they have any proof that organic is better?

In conclusion, the term “natural” implies a specific ideology and belief behind the word, because essentially it refers to something’s origin. When we think of an origin, we get into religious beliefs, scientific beliefs, cultural beliefs, etc. Overall, the troubling issue behind the use of “natural” in relation to food is that there is no specified definition by the FDA, and that the origin of faith in healthy natural food has a concrete definition. Possibly, maybe the problem of using the term “natural” to begin with is its many implications, and flawless connection to the ideas of nature, the past, and the world we might only remember as a memory.
Today, people in the first world are blessed with the ability to make a choice between GMO foods, which are foods that are genetically modified, and organic foods, which are foods that are not modified and are grown through natural means.
