Balance. A word I’ve heard so much once I began high school…balance your schedule, balance your academic and social life, balance time with family and friends , balance your budget…whew! It can be exhausting finding balance. I believe this element of having balance is the key to achieving success academically and personally. Looking at my high school years as a whole, I would say they’ve been successful. I’ve been blessed to have experienced many valuable elements of life, by the ripe old age of 17! While I may not graduate the valedictorian of my class, academically, I have rendered and maintained a respectable GPA while successfully taking on many AP and dual credit courses, as well as juggling a life outside the classroom. I believe God allows us to muscle through tough circumstances to make us stronger, refine our character, and build our faith. When the going gets tough for me, I cling to God’s promises, as the Bible says, “When I am weak, than I am strong.” God gives us the strength to turn an obstacle into an opportunity, if we choose the right attitude. I can sit back and complain when things get tough, or I can pull myself up by my boot straps and press on. Last year, I went through some rough times because of my grandfather’s health. I knew from exploring the campus and hearing Baylor’s mission, my leadership strengths, spiritual connection and regard with serving others would be a welcomed contribution to the Baylor community. I intend to seek out organizations to get involved with, where I can continue my community service and nurture my spiritual growth, as I have done at home. My involvement with Young life the last 4 years, as a member and serving as a leader of the freshman girls, has helped me develop leadership strengths I will be able to share with Baylor’s diverse student body. It is through this organization I have found fulfilment by exercising my gifts to encourage others, which incorporates my passion for serving others. I can also contribute to Baylor life through my work experience. I work teaching young girls cheerleading and tumbling skills. I help them strengthen their athletic talents and abilities, while providing encouragement to their tender hearts. God has blessed me with the gift of compassion, revealed to me by working with these girls. I have learned small acts can have huge impacts in
