Introduction For 112 years, the Humane Society of North Texas has been a leader in the DFW Metroplex in animal wellness. The HSNT is the longest and largest standing non-profit animal rescue and adoption organization in North Texas (“About HSNT”). They serve over 25,000 animals annually through their range of services available to the community; emergency animal rescue, humane investigation, low-cost spay and neuter, owner surrender and more. • Their donation amount increases yearly, leading to more services that are provided to the community. Weaknesses • HSNT has little to no social media engagement with followers. Better engagement with the community through HSNT’s social media accounts will garner more attention and a larger following. Opportunities • With the growing trend of animal adoption, HSNT has an opportunity to increase their adoption rates while lowering their shelter numbers by showcasing the benefits of adoption. Threats • There are many competing organizations in North Texas area. HSNT must find a way to attract potential donors and volunteers to their organization over others. Key Messages and Target Audiences HSNT’s key message is to protect animals from neglect, homelessness and abandonment. Their target audiences include animal lovers, animal rights advocates, families with children and pet owners. Goal HSNT’s goal is to save as many animals as possible. HSNT was able to support their goal of saving as many animals as possible by the different successful tactics and strategies. The social media campaigns on HSNT’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube were able to connect to guests across multiple platforms and gained the organization more followers and engagement with audiences. The use of traditional media at community events and schools throughout multiple districts gained the organization more donations than the previous year and the number of volunteers were at a record high. Recommendations for the future would be to include education in tactics when speaking to the community and to focus any donation and volunteer efforts on their different target
Many people have begun to question how they use the money they raise. About 81% of their funds are put towards their programs and services, while more reputable charities are usually
Four journalists named Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, Marcia Glaser, and Fred Myers thought it would be a good idea to create a nonprofit organization to help animals that have are treated cruelly by either abuse or when they are left alone. The Humane Society has been helping animals since November 24, 1954(2). Their mission since the beginning has been celebrating animals and confronting cruelty. There are a great number of things that the Humane Society has been doing for the animals, like saving them from people who want to harm them. The list of animals that the Humane Society helps is very long, because they don’t just help the household pets that you might have thought. The conditions of the Humane Society change due to the types of animals
CAHS is an organization with many needs. You could help them by spending a couple of hours with the animals so the staff doesn’t have to stay late to make sure the dogs get their 3 walks a day. You could adopt an animal. This helps you, the animal, and CAHS because according to Lawrence Robinson, Jeanne Segal, “One study found that
Most people are familiar with service dogs and have seen them in action. Animal-assisted therapy is similar service animals in that an animal-human healing partnership is being created. However, the difference is that therapy pets are typically used to treat a mental disability whereas people with physical disabilities use service dogs to help them in many ways. Therapy animals are used in a wide variety of places, such as, hospitals, prisons, nursing homes, therapy sessions, mental healthcare facilities, and even in people’s homes. These amazing animals are used on a wide variety of different disorders, but they are utilized mostly by people suffering from depression, anxiety, and PTSD. For people with these mental health disorders, everything in live can be difficult and challenging, however with the help of animal-assisted therapy, their mood, motivation, and life can dramatically improve. Anyone who hears about these brave, loving animals soon falls in love with them. From a medical standpoint, there have been many successful studies and the support for animal-assisted therapy still continues to grow in doctors and therapists across the nation.
Thousands of animals are put to sleep each year due to not having any available homes for them to be adopted. According to Jennifer Sexton and Tom Warhol in Domestic Animal Overpopulation, “The average female cat can produce two litters of six kittens per year, a female dog can produce one litter of six or more puppies per year, making pet overpopulation a significant problem.” Animal overpopulation is costing money and you can help the pets with spay and neutering programs. A new solution is mandatory contracts for breeders and spay and neuter programs. This paper will talk about spay and neuter programs, contracts for breeders, and why some people don’t think animal overpopulation is a problem. Thankfully there are solutions to this issue of animal overpopulation.
Ideally, pet supply would be equal to the demand for wanted pets. There may never be enough caring homes for all the pets as is evident by the fact that only about 25 percent of the pets in shelters are ever adopted. F...
For this assignment I chose the United Way. (http://www.unitedway.org) At first glance the things that stood out to me is how many major sponsorship they have on their web page. Although the United Way does not have some of the elements from the questions we are posed, they do have an extensive network reaching millions of donors and raising $86.1 million through their annual campaign. This giving reports is from 2013 and gives you an idea of the network they have in place to raise these kinds of funds. In Levinson, J. C., & Gibson, S. (2010) we read this week, we find that the ability to get your name in front of the world is a big deal. “Appeal to the whole world. Your name should actually help qualify the right prospects and repel those that don’t resonate
The first stakeholder group is animal rights groups. I critically read articles from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the Humane Society of the United States. According to their website, PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members. The HSUS on the other hand, is the nation’s largest and most effective animal protection organization. Both groups take a parallel stance. An article posted on PETA’s website outlines their stance on horse slaughter, and they unquestionably oppose the idea of horse slaughter. Michelle Kretzer, the author of the PETA article, claims that more than 160,000 horses are jam-packed in trucks where they are deprived of food, water, warmth, and rest. The article also explains that horses are put on the trucks to be exported for slaughter to Mexico and Canada. Upon arrival in those countries, horses are shot in the head with a captive bolt gun, and at least 40 percent are still conscious after the shot. (Kretzer, 2013) HSUS also presents disturbing facts on their website. HSUS explains that before 2007, the year horse slaughter stopped, horses experienced broken bones protruding from their bodies, even eyeballs hanging out by a thread. (The Humane Society, 2013) Both groups strongly believe that slaughtering horses is not the solution to the overpopulation of unwanted horses, rather they believe that more horses can to be sent to rescue shelters and adopted. If horse slaughter continues, the animal rights stakeholder will lose everything they have fought for and fail their mission
Six to eight million animals enter shelters each year. Out of the 6-8 million animals, 2.7 million are euthanized each year. 2.4 million of the 2.7 million animals that are euthanized were treatable, healthy, and could’ve been adopted. That leaves about 700,000 “legitimate euthanizations” (“Pet Statistics”). Fifty-six percent of dogs that enter shelters and 71% of cats that enter shelters are euthanized (“Animal Shelter Euthanasia”). Even though a significant number of animals are killed each year, the no-kill movement is slowly stopping the issue. There are currently about 14,000 no-kill shelters and rescue groups in the U.S. No-kill shelters are animal shelters that do not use euthanasia. 20 million dogs and cats used to be put down each year. Today, only 2.7 animals are euthanized
Towards animal welfare comes the aspect of animal cruelty. Animal cruelty is a fairly recent subject that has affected society. Animal cruelty has now shown comparisons through human abused households. The concern is recent because as society changes humans attitudes change which now affects towards animals. Animal welfare is used to help animal cruelty, because decreasing the violence between animals and humans can help the regulations of animal welfare. Research and testing have become more prominent and a strong concern to the public on the treatment on animals. Many activists today are trying to change the view people see toward the animal they have as a companion. Ethical issues are the many concerns about animals and the question always asked is,”who has the right to control the animal?”
Animal cruelty is now a growing cause concern in Hong kong .And it sparks a frenzy of awareness from public and some organizations went on a demonstration to ask for law implementation .According to The society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (spca) annual review survey findings ,rescuing and handling over 7,000 animals as well as investigating nearly 900 cruelty complaints in 2012/2013 .This phenomena brings out a lot for influence to society.
The SWOT analysis is a useful tool for identifying our personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to our plans and goals. According to a “Fuel My Motivation” article (2010), this analysis considers internal influences that can positively or negatively affect our ability to achieve our goals. The internal factors are our strengths and weaknesses. Also considered are opportunities and threats, which are external influences that can have a positive or negative impact on the ability to achieve our goals. I will share how the self-assessment instruments and self-exercises in this course have contributed to assessing and understanding my strengths and weaknesses. I will also discuss techniques I will use to leverage my strengths and understand my weaknesses. In addition, I will consider opportunities that I can take advantage of and the threats that can possibly impede my progress.

Despite the shocking content of the message of the campaign had increased consumer awareness of market practices and social awareness on animal abuse.
