How to Make the Ultimate Oatmeal

343 Words1 Page

Oatmeal is among the most popular and healthy breakfast foods. When properly prepared, a hot bowl of oatmeal can soothe a bad mood, alleviate a cold, or provide an energy boost on a chilly winter morning. Be advised, however, that without the proper tools and directions, this nutritious breakfast can taste like nothing more than a spoonful of dry oats. In order to transform these raw flakes into a firm and flavorful hot cereal, there are several important steps to follow.

Choosing the proper oatmeal among the numerous types available is the first and most crucial step. Instant varieties simply require the boiling of water and addition of a pre-mixed package of oats. Although this type tends to be sugary and less nutritious, it is great for people on the run. Other oatmeals take longer amounts of time to cook, but in the end, produce a hot cereal with a richer texture.

After selecting the proper oatmeal, make sure that your kitchen is equipped with the necessary materials to prepare this wholesome breakfast. Find a measuring cup, a bowl, a large spoon, a source of pure water, and a metal pot.

At this point, you may smile at the realization that the type of oatmeal and the tools that you have chosen are a representation of your lifestyle and identity. If you are an energetic child at heart, the sweetened instant hot cereal, a colorful bowl, and a metal spoon of modern design will likely be your choice. Unable to wait longer than thirty seconds for breakfast, you quickly add the packet of flavored oats into the bowl, boil the water and mix.

On the other hand, if your personality is that of a mature, more refined person, you may find yourself using old-fashioned or traditional oatmeal, a classic pot, and a treasured wooden spoon that has been in your family for generations. This is my choice of oatmeal and utensils. I love the slow-cooked oatmeal and I plan my mornings in order to allow the time to prepare it. I wait patiently as the oatmeal simmers, envisioning the finished hot cereal and its unique smell and taste.

To prepare the oatmeal, bring two cups of water to a rapid boil and then lower the flame. Slowly add one cup of oats and a pinch of salt.
