Don’t they get tired of the unnecessary weight they have to carry around, don’t they get tired of having to pay extra for their clothes? Or does it bother them at the least of people gawking at them for how they look and breathe? Why does the obese continue to walk around killing themselves slowly because they aren’t losing the weight, why do they still continue to keep all the fast food chains in business instead of taking the opportunity to prepare and cook their meals at home? Why do they continue to play with their health and not want to prolong their life? When I was younger I remember people making fun of the obese people and now that I am an adult people are still prone to making fun of them. As if obese people don’t have enough to worry about already; paying extra for clothes and airplane tickets. They also have to worry about gaining employment, and how people will perceive them when going out to have a good time. The humiliation that society places on stout people not only disgust me, but it does them as …show more content…
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention the obesity results from a combination of causes and contributing factors, including individual factors such as behavior and genetics (CDC, 2015). Obesity is a serious concern because it is associated with poorer mental health outcomes, reduced quality of life, and the leading causes of death in the U.S. and worldwide, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer (CDC, 2015). My weight gain did not come from genetics, childhood, or even midlife, it developed from me having complications from giving my father my kidney. According to my doctor I was that .01% out of 99.99 to have rare complications, so I could have not avoided this weight gain unless I did not give my father my kidney and by any means that was not an option. Nonetheless, I have been active at my local gym, doing strenuous yard activities in landscaping my parents yard, watching and counting calories and even on diets and to no avail nothing has worked. My incision is still swollen and tender to the touch causing my side to look deformed. Haslam states that, “some people come from families in which body size is genetically large” (Haslam, 2009). Could this be a reason why I have yet to lose my
Moreover, no matter how much fat people try to lose weight, media and judgmental people will always be there to make obese people look worthless. On top of that, their strict exercise regimen does not seem to pay off because everything would match but weight. At one point, obese people give up and just accept the reality that they are obese and are allowed to be mocked.
There are various things to do in order to lose weight, such as starting a diet, being healthy as well as eating healthy. We continue to believe what is the right way of being healthy in the way we view food in which involve eating less and more different. There are a few things to understand to fulfill our basic needs such as being able to make a difference between the good and bad cravings our body has. As well as knowing what nutrition facts are showing and most importantly how to read and understand nutrition facts and how to live a healthy lifestyle.
But the bottom line is to treat fat people just as you would any other person. Recognize fat people have to work incredibly hard both mentally and physically to do the same things a thin person takes for granted (i.e., going to the beach, flying on a plane). The excuses aren't going to cut it anymore. People should be judged by the actions that they take and the opinions they hold, not for the body they were born into.
In 2010 the center for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) calculated that as much as 34.9 % of adults in the United States are Obese (Obesity). At this rate it is estimated that at least 3/4 of adults in the United States will be obese or overweight by the year 2020(Obesity). The United States has made great efforts to reduce this percentage such as exercise programs and promoting healthy eating (Published). However, with 60% of our meals consisting of added sugar and processed and genetically modified food, it is quite hard to find the ideal diet in order to lose weight and be healthy (Trying). Many of these diets include Vegan diets, Vegetarian diets, low carb diets and the Atkins diet. However, these diets tend to be impractical and
Discriminating against a person because of one's weight can be a seriously hurtful and demeaning thing. Many people assume that the causes for being overweight are eating all day and rarely exercising. Some people call overweight people slobs or lazy, when in most instances this isn't the case. Some have health problems that lead to being overweight, like a kidney disease or malfunction, or the person may even be suffering from a birth defect.
In the larger picture, weight loss surgeries have become “the fast food” response to weight loss demands by the public. In my opinion, many patients are using weight loss surgeries as the weight loss mean rather than their own self-control and self-discipline; instead of for use by those who couldn’t lose weight by any other way. Unfortunately, not all the participants need the weight loss surgeries, and not all receive a long lasting benefit from the surgeries. As obesity spikes nationwide, so does the use (and potential abuse by overuse) of surgical procedures for weight loss.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2013), in 2009-2010, 69.2% of Americans over the age of twenty were considered to be overweight or obese. That is a staggering number, but there are an abundance of diet plans on the market today to help lower that percentage. Some of the most popular diet plans are Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and My Fitness Pal. The problem lies in deciding which plan is the right one, and the only way to make that decision is by weighing each of the plans many pros and cons against the others.
Losing weight takes more than just desire it also takes commitment and a well-thought-out plan. Deciding to lose weight, changing your lifestyle, and becoming healthier are the first big steps. You must be cleared as to what you want to get out of this lifestyle. Do you want to live a longer healthier life? If your family has a history of diseases, is your goal to lower the risk of developing the diseases? Will losing weight make you feel better about yourself and have a more positive outlook on life? These are things that a person wanting to lose weight should ask themselves. In this case, weight needs to be lost at a healthy pace without losing any muscle mass after pregnancy and an injury.
About fifteen percent of Americans suffer from some type of eating disorder. Media and Bullying are two causes of eating disorders. Different types include Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Although it is clear that eating disorders can sometimes improve appearance for some people, these disorders are also life threatening and have negative effects such as depression and fatigue.
Losing weight and maintaining a diet program can be a tedious task since not everyone leans to food restrictions. Everyone wants to eat what they want but without responsibility and discipline, weight loss can be arduous. In fact, the reason why most people gain weight is due to the fact that they don’t consider what they eat or what the nutritional facts of the food they consume are. This is the habit that health experts want to change. People need to start living healthy and doing so needs discipline. There are a number of diet program as well as exercise methods that will aid you in losing weight; you just need to find the right mix/combination to help you with your goal.
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. We live in a society today that says that image is important. The messages that the movies, music videos, and magazines gives us about what beauty is suppose to look like can be very demanding. From the super thin models to the long weaves and big bootys. Society's view of beauty is especially hard for the women of today, we are constantly being told that beauty is being thin and never being told to be happy with who we are. The way we are suppose to look can cause a heavy burden on some people's lives thus causing some people to develop an eating disorder.
Living a healthy lifestyle is a melting pot of several factors. One is not able to live a healthy lifestyle without a solid diet and workout foundation. The harmful side effects of processed food, drugs, alcohol, and sleep deprivation trump one’s life while mental and emotional stability aids in a healthy lifestyle. According to Jillian Michaels, “The right diet will regulate your blood sugar, balance your hormones, and maximize your energy, all of which promote optimal fat burning and muscle development.” None the less, one must form a platform based on healthy morals and principles in order to live life to its fullest potential.
