Across the nation more of the population is trying to become healthier by exercising, specifically running. In order to exercise, a person needs to wear appropriate footwear. Nike is a very popular company that produces and sells running shoes. However, how does someone decide which shoe to buy for running? While purchasing new running shoes, there are different criteria that should be considered. In 2012, over 44 million running shoes were purchased (2013 State of the Sport). A few things these consumers hopefully took time to think about include price, comfort, style/design, and color. The price of a sneaker is important, especially if someone is on a budget. Sneakers can range anywhere from a few dollars up to over one hundred dollars, …show more content…
A particular pair of Danskin’s is fifteen dollars but received a review of one star by a specific mother. She claims “Every time we purchase Danskin shoes they fall apart after a couple of months” (Danskin Now). Compare that to a review of an eighty dollar pair of Nike running sneakers—“Needed a shoe with good arch support and also wanting it to be light in weight. I got a great fit with this shoe!” (Nike Women’s). From what the reviewers have said, there is clearly a relationship between price and quality. Along with quality in the price, there is also comfort. While working out and running, comfort is significant. Separate brands of running shoes offer various levels of comfort. Through personal experience, it is known that if the price of the sneaker is lower, the shoe is not that comfortable and will make feet ache.
There are different models of running shoes in various companies. For example, Nike produces shoes that are low to the ground, called Nike Free Runs, and they create ones with a higher heel such as Nike Air and Nike Lunar. Asics also makes countless different models of shoes. All the different types of shoes have different feelings on various parts of the foot. This includes the heel, toes, and the overall tightness of the shoe. However, the different models of shoes are a personal preference. For a lot of younger people, this is important. Younger generations want to have articles of clothing that are “in style” and this includes what they wear on their feet. It seems as though sneakers that are more colorful and have a pattern are the sneakers that are most popular but also the most expensive. Consumers must weigh their priorities such as the design and price while buying sneakers. The excitement someone feels while shopping for new running shoes comes from all the numerous options he or she has while looking.
Females and males both love shopping for new running shoes. It makes him or her feel motivated and creates a sense of self-esteem. There are over 100 different running watches. Every single watch has its own characteristics but most of them have the same ones. All of these watches however, are set for different people. Many have setups that not every athlete needs. The best running watch so far as tested is the Garmin Forerunner 620, this running watch is full of many surprises and abilities all together, which for most, is the perfect and a great athletic watch.
After the direction of the new shoe line has been developed, a price of each shoe will need to be determined to see if a profit can still be made. The price will be benchmarked against other shoes in the same category to make them competitive in the buying market. L.A. Gear may even try to undercut the prices if they are still able to maintain a profit to entice the consumers to try their new product and gain their loyalty. They must be careful though not to make them to inexpensive because they want the customer to feel that these are the shoes they need to perform better and the expense would be well worth it.
Nike’s goal is to remain unique and different from others in terms of the items offered on the market. Arguably, Nike belongs to a monopolistically competitive market as there only a few organizations with the ability to regulate the amount charged for their product which means they cannot make their prices high as this is likely to make customers move on to other available choices (Nike, Inc., 2012). However, Nike can find a balance between the prices to charge for their products and remaining competitive with other companies in the industry. Nike has formed a distinction between the appearance and performance of their footwear and that of their competitors. Although products are differentiated from other companies, they still influence each other because they are items of the same
It’s because when I sport the Nike swoosh, I feel as if I representing the Nike brand and the beautiful, driven, fit women I see in their advertisements. Feeling this way gives me the inspiration and confidence to play my best. I feel as if I identify with the women in the advertisements by wearing Nike. “The relationship between persons and the product remains one of the most crucial signifiers within advertisements. Persons in advertisements supply the consumer with a certain identification frame—whether the person is presented as a user or is presented within a lifestyle setting, the viewer is invited to identify him/herself with the presented person.” 202 Brand Culture. The Nike brand does a great job at doing this to their consumers to create brand loyalty. Nike brand users, just like myself, see the athletes using the brands and feel a certain connection to them. Brand loyalty should not only be a goal for brands because of the benefit of having their logo advertised on consumers who fit within their target market, but also for PRICE SOMETHING ECONOMY

Adidas on the other hand has boost technology which is hundreds of nuggets of super-springy thermoplastic polyurethane. Nike will need to showcase our differentiating elements of the company as runners are very brand loyal customers. Even so, Nike has 60% of the market currently. You mentioned that you feel we can improve in this area, so this is what we’re going to do: massively increase innovation and development for our running shoes, and increase brand reputation. Nike has been a historic leader in running technologies. Recently we released the electronically tied running shoes, just like from the movie Back to the Future. We need to continue to push boundaries and see what new technologies can do to revolutionize the sport. The second focus for this market is to increase our presence in specialty running stores and in third party eCommerce sites. Making sure Nike is seen and heard by this market is going to increase our success with them. Dedicated runners were found to go to specialty running shops more often than making any purchases online. Nike needs to have a bigger presence where the customers actually
