How Music Affects Child Development

What do all the major genres of music including rap/hip-hop, R&B, and reggae have in common? They can all help or harm the health of our children. Many songs by influential artists such as “Invincible” by Machine Gun Kelly or “Dead and Gone” by T. I. can bring such a positive message to children today. Also, music of that same genre such as “Crack” by 2Chainz or “Coco” by O. T. Genesis can contribute to the negative effects of society. Regardless of the effects of the popular genre, the effect it has on the longevity a child’s development is neutral. That has led to numerous investigations and studies on what has the greatest effect on the development of the child. Many blogs contribute to the claim that parents’ involvement in children’s lives can have an overwhelming effect on how that child grows up and how the child acts as an adult or a parent in the future. According to many, parents should make the effect to become more involved in the lives of their children. In one of her blogs, Alice Drinkworth made a remark saying, “Parents who are involved with their children, who know where they are after school and have met most of their friends have a positive effect on their child’s life” (par. 2). With the positive effects, such doing better in school and having a higher self-esteem, not being involved can have a negative effect on a child. Drinkworth also brought up another remark saying, “Children who don’t have a close relationship with a parent are at risk for teen pregnancy, more likely to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, and more likely to live a sedentary life” (par 3). This proves that parents do have an impact on their kids if they are involved in their lives. Sewell and Higgins also contribute to the claim by implying in their blog that “after the birth of their child, parents have crucial roles in impacting different aspects of their child’s development in a variety of ways especially regarding behavioral /social development” (par .1). This further supports the claim presented in the thesis. Also from personal experience, I have witnessed that parents who involve themselves in the children’s lives bring about positive outcomes. My mother is a constant in my life and because of that I graduated third in my high school class and I’m attending one of the top colleges in the world in Mississippi State University. I also sing in the church choir at home and at the UBC church on campus. So, that proves that if parents show an effort to make an impact in the lives of their children, then it will
