One man on a mission to end war in America. A man who would risk it all to save America from nuclear war. A man who died and left us after a three year term as president. That man was John Fitzgerald Kennedy who gave his life to get America back on track during the Cold War. A man who did something nice for everyone including our enemies. During the three years as president, John F. Kennedy impacted American’s through his support of the Civil Rights Movement, his handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and his establishment of the Peace Corps, and he was the first president to think of going into outer space. He kept on going to meetings at the White House, trying to figure out what was going on at the time and what they could do to stop it. It was not four days later and John F. Kennedy decided to block Cuba from the Soviet Union. America and Soviets were at the brink of nuclear war and were closer to it than they ever were before. On October 22, 1962 president Kennedy made a speech about the evidence and what the Soviets were doing. In his speech he said, “We will not tolerate this kind of threat to the American people, we will fight back if you don’t get your troops off of Cuba. I have not assumed that you or any other sane man would in this nuclear age, deliberately plunge the world into war which it is crystal clear no country could win, and which could only result in catastrophic consequences to the whole world, including the aggressor.” Soon after, the ships that were on their way to Cuba from Russia turned back around and headed for home. Khrushchev said to Kennedy that they would get their troops out of Cuba, but only if America would not invade Cuba.
