The American Dream is when people are free to become whatever they desire. The United States of America is a country where citizens are free to make choices, have the right to freedom of speech, plus possess the right to vote. The American Dream is having family or friends that will help you achieve your goals in life. Owning property is an American Dream because it symbolizes freedom; also having goals symbolizes strength. In John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men,”George and Lennie can pursue the American Dream. In America, a person has the freedom to decide what kind of career path they choose to follow like being agriculturist, construction worker, or an engineer. George and Lennie used to work in the town of Weed until Lennie attacked a girl by holding on to her dress. Afterwards, the people went looking for them. George and Lennie concealed themselves from the men that were trying to capture them. Then they went to Soledad to work on a ranch. If Lennie gets in trouble again, they will have to leave town again and they’ll have to find a new farm. So in the meantime, George went to Slim and asked if Lennie could keep one of his pups and Slim said yes, but they need to be with their mother right now.
