For the first time I went to Butler School of Music at The University of Texas to the “Holiday Choral Concert” on Saturday, December 9th. Featuring The University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, and Chorus. The combination that the The University of Texas were featuring made it very different from the second concert I attend to which I enjoyed very much because not only did I get to hear different types of instruments, but I was also able to listen to talented singers. On November 16th, 2013, I attended a concert choir, fall choral concert. This event took place on the Wheaton College Campus, in the Edman Chapel at 7:30 pm. The chapel was well-lit, with long pews for the audience to be seated. The concert began with the audience looking up into a balcony, where the ensemble stood in neat rows. They watched the conductor, who stood on a stage in front of the audience, waiting for their cue.
On March 13th the Rochester Oratorio Society and Houghton College Choir performed at the Hochstein Performance Hall in the city of Rochester. It was a predominately vocal concert with an accompanying pianist. The main performance of the evening was the Rochester Oratorio Society’s rendition of Johannes Brahms’ “Ein deutsches Requiem,” in which vocal soloists Elena O’Connor and Benjamin Bloomfield took the front stage, and Linda Boianova joined Kevin Nitsch as a second pair of hands behind the piano.
On February 27, 2014 the Humberside Collegiate Choir performed 3 songs at the Ontario Vocal Festival (OVF) in the Mayfield Secondary School auditorium. This choir wore maroon sashes with their school logo around their waists so that they could be identified as a choir. This choir sang “Fair Phyllis”, “I Value My Country”, and “One Goal”.
In conclusion, it was a very unique experience for me to attend this concert. It was my first time listening to music in a church. The music was wonderful and played brilliantly. I now realize how talented some of the women composers were throughout the history of music. The experience of listening to such wonderful music firsthand was an honor. I hope to attend one in the near future.
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. This made me curious how this event will turn out. Walking past the ticket area and through the doors to the lobby made me feel instantly memorized at how grand it was on the inside. ...ement started softly with an increase in volume as it progressed. Long strokes of the violas bows and a resonating cellos created a vibrant sound. This was tone movement in which the cellos were so dominant, and it became livelier after the introduction of more instruments creating an exciting climax of the whole piece.
My final winter concert has come and gone quicker than I could have possibly imagined. It was certainly one I will never forget because it was my very first time performing in every band and choir group. It was a very stressful night but having it perfectly planned and having help from many of my fellow performers definitely made me feel a lot more at ease. This concert definitely had it’s ups and downs and there are somethings that I wish went a lot better. However in the end, I did enjoyed performing and gave it a lot of effort.
For my concert write-up, I attended the UCR Chamber Singers Valentine's concert on February 9th at the Culver Center of the Arts in downtown Riverside. It was a mix of ensemble pieces, solos, duos, and trios. The setting for the performance was a beautifully lit spot in the center, surrounded by art. The audience seats were set up close to the performance area, in about 5 or so rows surrounding the front half of the stage. By the time the performance started, it was nearly full, seemingly diverse, and made up of all ages.
On Friday November 15, 2013, I attended a concert that I found very interesting. It took place at 7:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The group performing was the Erie Chamber Orchestra but as a special the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir was also there.
Live Production Play Analysis Many know that the Christmas season is one of the busiest times of the year. However, Santa is the one with the most weight on his shoulders. Going from hemisphere to hemisphere to bring joy to all the children is a very hard job to do. Santa has to do it in a very timely and organized manner, or children won’t wake up to presents under the tree.
On Wednesday, May 23rd, I attended the College Choir concert in the Reamer Campus Center. The choir performed a variety of songs, ranging from pieces in Latin to traditional American folksongs. Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.
On October 6, I attended a Wind Ensemble in Bennett Auditorium and was delighted by the experience. All of the pieces that were played were definitely interesting, but some pieces were more enjoyable than others. When I arrived at the event I was expecting a larger audience than what I saw, however I have not gone to anything like this event before so it could possibly have been a good turnout. Overall the performers all did very well and I would definitely like to attend more concerts similar to this one.
The spring choir concert that I went to was like the percussion concert just with singing. I enjoyed listening to the singers as they sung the different melodies. As I was sitting there listening to the different singers sing I could not help but to think about how strong there voices are and how strong they must be to get over the big space of the performance center. Voice is just lost in such a big space like the one in the Price performance center, they have to work on their voices and make sure that they can sing loud, clear and strong to get it across to the audience. Also, while trying to do that they must make sure that the quality is not lost while trying to increase the loudness of their voice. I could also tell the different voices such as the tenors the sopranos and the altos. I could not help but to realize how these different voices interacted with each other and how without one set the sound would not be the same and would be lost. I don’t understand how some people can sing as high as they do, such as the alto section. They must have some hard exercising for their voice to get as high as it does and to sound just as good.

For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see student composers.
