Wind Ensemble Winter and Symphony Band Concert report
February 24, Monday, 2014 at 7.30 P.M. the USA symphony band and Ensemble performed four pieces of music concert in the recital hall of the Laidlaw performing. The symphony band performed works such as Holt’s famous “suite in E-flat” and jack stamps exciting fanfare “Cenotaph”. While the Ensemble band conducted by William Petersen and Greg gunner. The orchestra particularly the pizzicato cellos and lyrical strings entered and offered a strong layer of support. That solo contrasted well with the orchestra. This created sustained ethereal high pitched sound, suggesting another worldly character. This build up created the climax of the first movement and occurred when the trumpet played weighty hammering move which punctuated the lovely main theme of the violin. This became the most moving and inspiring passages of the entire concert in the art theatre. I would be interested in inquire whether Holts intended it to come out that way. The wind Ensemble took full stage with frank Kevin puts “millennium Canons”. Although I was so much impressed by the whole concert, the second part after the break created a more lasting memory. The show started by wind ensemble getting to the stage, they adhered to their wind ensemble models of more flexible and smaller instrumentation. Their first movement made a more lasting impression on me the interesting feature of this was that it created ensemble consisting of strings. My suspicion rose over what I was seeing, but I soon realise that the absence of woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments did not affect the effectiveness of the piece. The uniqueness of the timbre was satisfying because it enhanced communication level by familiarity and intimacy of sound. The movement started dramatically with the whole assembly playing together. The instrument shift from one chord to the next, as the dynamics decreases gradually. This deeply fuelled my anticipation of the next events significance.
