Health and Human Services Social Work is growing now a day due because of poverty, which is why there is a big demand for social workers. It is a very dedicated job and stressful at the same time. Social work is for people who want to help people, also because of all the clients you ended up having some of the client’s do not appreciate what you are doing for them and get violent start threaten you, or getting physical. Some social workers have so much work that they even have to work weekends and night hour’s just to catch up with the work load. They do get lots of clients so there is lots of work to be done, these is another reason why is very stressful job. We need more social workers of all kinds for example; justice, hospitals, clinics, family and teenagers, hospice, adults, jails, public health, and school social worker, mental health, child protective agencies and substance abuse social workers. Being a social worker you can go into lots of different fields not just on one degree but different ones. Also you help all kinds of different people races, beliefs, and situations. Social workers are a huge part of our community everywhere because they help us in lots of ways and get us to where we need to go. A social worker does the most challenging job she or he has to be able to solve problems and be good at it. He or she has to have a trust and connection with the client, especially with children at risk and young people of our community. They have a unique role that will let those help families in need. Social workers level the playing field for individuals and families that have experienced hardships, terminal illnesses, mental health disorders and other adverse environmental situations that inhibit their ability to thrive within society. Social Workers are very important to everyday life. They are the ones that help people in need when they have nobody else to turn too. Also, they provide resources and better understanding of predicaments that you could be experiencing. I will reflect on how the class has affected me, my own experiences and how some theories have connected to my life experiences, and lastly, if the class helped toward my major. This class is important for someone that wants to become a social worker and wants to learn about the different theories used. Also, learning about me during this process of completing this class is fun and a way to see if the social work profession is right for me. There was many theories explained throughout this class but many will not be said because it wasn’t the main points that I was trying to get across. There are two tools that are used that can help a social worker organize a client’s life: Bubble map and Briefcase exercise. There are so many different ways a social worker can help a client deal with their problems and come up with a solution. It is up to that social worker to identify the client’s problem and see what theory fits.

As we all know, there is a solution to every problem - but having the resources and support to resolve one of these could be the hindrance to a satisfying outcome for you, the worker. Often, one feels they haven't done enough to meet the client's needs, especially when you keep hitting road blocks, therefore you go above and beyond - often putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation in the long run. I can see these two concerns listed as being a personal challenge for any human service professional.
One of the five key principles of care practice is to ‘Support people in having a voice and being heard,’ (K101, Unit 4, p.183). The key principles are linked to the National Occupational Standards for ‘Health and Social Care’. They are a means of establishing and maintaining good care practice. Relationships based on trust and respect should be developed between care receivers and care givers, thus promoting confidence whilst discussing personal matters without fear of reprisal and discrimination.
Those who choose social work as their profession do so for a variety of reasons. In general, they appear to be motivated by a combination of humanitarian and egalitarian values, and by a desire to understand how society works and how to make it better for everyone. Frequently, a person is motivated to become a social worker following exposure to injustice and oppression.(p.16.)
Human services professionals are those who facilitate and empower those in society who require assistance in meeting their basic human needs both emotionally, mentally, and physically. Human services professionals work with diverse cultures in many different settings to provide prevention, education, and resources for individuals, families, groups and communities. Some of the populations served are, children and families, adolescents, and the homeless. To support groups in crisis human services professionals must be committed, patient, possess listening skills, and have an ability to be empathetic without reducing one’s ability to be empowered (Martin, 2011).
Social workers focus on the interactions of people and environment in order to improve conditions to help restore and maximize the capabilities to function in society. They must possess the ability to make ethical decisions within various contexts of the profession. This can vary from clinical work in either a mental health facility to child welfare in human service agencies.
My understanding about the social work profession is one that works with a diverse group of people to better their well-being in all aspects. Social workers requires: responsibility, passion, and knowledge. The social worker has to understand their own personal cultural values, beliefs, and appreciate the multicultural identities of different people. The profession of social worker requires a lot of skills because they have different tasks and responsibilities. They are aware of social policies and programs for the diverse clients advocating.
Although social work may be categorized as many things I believe what sets it apart from other occupations is the need to promote social justice. Barusch (2015) explained social justice for social workers is working towards an end goal for their client’s.
The social work profession is defined as “a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people (ISFW, ‘Global Definition of Social Work’, 2016).” The definition may be true about the profession but it is more in depth than just that. To me, the profession’s primary focus is to help others through life as much as we can while letting them make their own choices and guiding them. In society, social workers are utilized in many different nonprofit and government roles. They serve the community in many different ways from monitoring parent visits to helping people through mental illnesses. Human beings are so complex and things that happen
The work of a social worker is complex and all encompassing. Social workers work in many capacities seeking justice, liberation, and equality. There work is global, as they work to put policies in place to govern practices. To keep up with societal shifts and generational changes there learning is continuous. As new questions rise so does the need for the continuation of research, not only to answer these questions but to implement into
families, and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being. Social workers are change agents and because of that, they aim to help people develop their skills and abilities to use resources provided to them to strengthen and improve their lives and communities to resolve problems. One of the main goal of social workers is to improve the well-being and lives of the most vulnerable populations, fight against poverty, unemployment, domestic violence and the underserviced population by emphasizing on the person-in-environment and social justice model. The social work profession, considerers the individuals’ internal and external struggles, while working with the individuals to examine their relationships, family, work environment, community, and other things that might impact them and identify ways to help address problems and challenges.
The social work profession at the simplest level, is providing service and achieving social justice for our community. There are various ways in which social workers can do this, ranging from simply providing necessary support to getting children out of dangerous situations. I always knew that my calling was to help and advocate for populations in my community that were vulnerable and often forgotten.
