The health promotion project is based on personal hygiene. Skin health is essential for personal wellbeing. Skin is the first barrier between the disease and the human body and if this barrier is not healthy the body if prone to various infections. “The APGS (2000) reported present expenditure on treating skin disorders is high but little attention is given to prevention, which is described as highly cost effective with great potential to reduce suffering” (Cowdell, 2011, p. 238). The health promotion project focuses on the providing personal hygiene products to the less fortunate who cannot afford to buy them. We evaluated that the population around Mercado is in need of personal hygiene products that can help reduce the risk of skin infection related to poor personal hygiene because of lack of affordability. One clinical experience that has influenced my perspective in relation to the community is about personal hygiene products. These products are part of my daily life, but the same things are considered items of luxury for the people who cannot afford them. Families that are economically insecure and have limited resources prioritize buying some things over others; they cut back on personal hygiene products thus increasing the risk of infections. Working in close proximity with the people who have limited resources, my future response will be always donating items for the basic needs.
