The Hamilton County Health Department is dedicated to the purpose of communicable disease prevention and health promotion for residents of all ages in Hamilton County and protecting the environment in which they live. The department maintains programs of education,regulatory enforcement, and provides health services devoted to the promotion of a healthy environment in Hamilton County.

By what has been presented Jimmy didn’t seem to have a positive and loving environment. His mum drank and had mental health problems. How did these factors occur? A possible lack of support for bringing up a child alone or Social-economic factors. Another area could be living in an area where people were living below the poverty line. In this instance there wouldn’t be any close ties with other people who live in the area. Being isolated in this instance with no social support from others who live close by may have had an impact on her. A two car accident Friday in downtown Heartland sent three people to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Huntsville Hospital (HH), located in Northeast Alabama, part of the Huntsville Hospital Health System, originating in downtown Huntsville, Alabama in the late 1800’s. As the not-for-profit, public hospital system developed, HH became the second largest employer in Madison County, Alabama with an estimated 7000 employees, 2000 nurses and 1000 physicians.
My most humbling experience was volunteering as a patient ambassador for the East Harlem Health Outreach Program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The program allows for Latinos of East Harlem to receive medical services for free or discounted. The duties of a patient ambassador are to help navigate patients to their appointment and answer any questions about their visit. All of the patients that I escorted were Latinos and some were Spanish speaking only. This experience made me think about the barriers of health within the Latino community. According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.
In the department of Health and Human Services, (HHS) it is their duty to protect the well beings such as the health of all americans. This means that they provide effective health services like medicine, public health programs, and by also providing human services like social services. This department was founded on April 11th, 1953 and currently holds over 79,000 employees. HHS was born as the cabinet level department of health, education and welfare in 1953 under President Eisenhower. In 1979, the department of education finally separated from all three departments that were combined already, (HEW) and the department of Health and Human services was formed while the other two departments were also formed into their own independant department.

Improving health is in the best interest of everyone, including non health professionals. Health mangers need to be constantly looking for ways to improve access to health, the quality of the care, and cost containment.
The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The clinical engineering at Victoria Hospital is an important branch of the hospital team management that are working to strategies ways to improve quality of service and lower cost repairs of equipments. The team members from Biomedical and maintenance engineering’s roles are to ensure utilization of quality equipments such as endoscope and minimize length of repair time. All these issues are a major influence in the hospital’s project cost. For example, Victory hospital, which is located in Canada, is in the process of evaluating different options to decrease cost of its endoscope repair. This equipment is use in the endoscopy department for gastroenterological and surgical procedures. In 1993, 2,500 cases where approximately performed and extensive maintenance of the equipment where needed before and after each of those cases. Despite the appropriate care of the scope, repair requirement where still needed. The total cost of repair that year was $60,000 and the repair services where done by an original equipment manufacturers in Ontario.
