I have decided to research gunpowder as my topic for the 2016 National History Day Project. My teacher and I has discussed about the topics in class. Such topics are The Columbian Exchange, the voyage of Christopher Columbus, potatoes, and corns. While those topics are not related to gunpowder, my teacher gave me a head start in thinking some of the other topics. The final topic I had thought about it is gunpowder. The reason why I chose gunpowder is because it changed the world significantly. Instead of open charging with swords, spears, and javelins, gunpowder has bring new units and weapons to the battlefield. I have conducted many research thought websites and compares it to another websites. When I found the fact about the topic, I can conclude the facts were correct. Video clips are harder to find because most of the video are copyrighted. Images are easier to find. I have found many images that are public domain. So my documentary were mostly images to inform the idea. I used iMovie to edit and create my documentary. Most of iMovie’s functions were familiar to me so it is pretty easy to create it. This is why I choose the documentary category. I put the images and video footages in specific order according to the history timeline. After all has been done, the documentary has finished. My topic, gunpowder, have covered this years theme “Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange” in some ways or the other. Gunpowder lead to the Age of Exploration because when the British, French, and other European countries discovered the America, they are carrying gunpowder weapons such as simple shotgun. In addition, gunpowder leads to many encounters in history. Some events are the Hundred Years’ War, Constantinople falls to the Ottoman Turks, World War 1 and 2, and many others. The exchange of gunpowder from the east to the west happens on the silk trade routes. Gunpowder has leads to greater innovations.
