George’s Great Ideas
Many years ago, our first president, George Washington decided to step down. With the help of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay he wrote his Farewell Address. Now you may think this was just to say goodbye, but the main purpose was to explain HIS OWN thoughts and ideas about how our government should function for once. He left many extremely helpful and important tips but nobody is heeding his advice! If we were to listen to, and utilize his advice we would be a far superior nation. I believe our nation would be a much better place to live in if we all heeded President Washington’s advice outlined in his Farewell Address.
First of all, I agree with Washington’s stance on political parties. George Washington
George Washington: "Farewell Address," September 19, 1796. Online by Gerhard Peters and John T. Woolley, The American Presidency Project. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/?pid=65539.
The best presidents that the United states has ever seen have to have been Abe Lincoln or George Washington. They were both loyal and cared about their country. George Washington founded the base for our beautiful country that we live in to this day. Abe Lincoln put a stop to slavery during his presidency before he was shot in the back of the head and murdered in the Ford Theater. They both put a lot of time and effort into building our country up. George Washington was an Army general and fought in many hard battles in the cold and across rivers and lakes. We have a lot to thank these men for and lots to learn from their noble actions. Living in their legacy is the whole United States that thanks them for their service. Another great president
Washington, George. Washington's Farewell Address to the People of the United States. Washington: [U.S. G.P.O.], 2004. Print.
George Washington’s Farewell Address, written in 1796, was a letter informing the citizen’s of the United States that he was retiring and would not seek a third term in office as President. Nine years after completion of the Constitution, 45 years of devotion to his country, and being up in years, Washington felt the time had come for him to decisively retreat to his home in Mount Vernon (Graff, 2015). Though he had desired to do so before the second term, he felt the country’s state of affairs were not yet in order. Included in his letter, he bestowed gratitude, blessings, advice and warnings for the still comparatively new country.
George Washington wrote a message to the American people and he named the document, Washington’s Farwell Address. George Washington started off his farewell by telling the people that the time has come to designate someone as president but that he would not be running for a third term. He goes on to explain in great detail why he would not be running for a third term as well as addressing what he believed the nation should follow. George Washington gave the people advice on how we could be a great nation but he also warned us about situations that would be the downfall of our great nation, but did we the people follow the advice he gave us in 1796.
There are many individuals in American History, whom we as Americans regard for their courage and audacity in shaping our nation. We learn in our history classes the great accomplishments of our founding fathers such as Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Ben Franklin. One other great founding father and our First President, George Washington was one whom we learned much about. We learn in school that he is as a prime example of leadership, citizenship, and overall individual achievement for his many contributions to our nation’s earliest struggles. But although we are taught that George Washington was this man of great disposition, no man is without his flaws. Many scholars have sought to enlighten individuals to these cracks in the Nation’s perspective of our first president. The following composition will give an analysis of literature that shows George Washington was in consistent regarding his views on slavery. Although Washington is well-known for his many political accomplishments little is spoken about his views regarding slavery.
With a new nation facing overwhelming difficulties, George Washington faced the challenges of being the first president to run, shape, and build the foundations of the newly formed United States. Washington came into office with the country in heavy debt, and an empty treasury. With the issues President George Washington was facing, he proved to be a paragon leader.
Washington’s farewell address mainly focused on foreign policy, but he does express concern for his other ideas such as religion and unity. Today’s foreign policy differs from what Washington had hoped for through his Farewell Address but, his policy today would have many different positive and negative manifestations. With his strong use of diction that strengthens his tone as well as his appeal to ethos, Washington’s address has definitely played a role in America’s current position today.

George Washington: You probably know him as the first president of the United States. I know him as a very effective leader of the country’s military, and a hard worker as well. Not only was he a great president, but he was also a successful leader in the military on many occasions as well. Therefore, the three qualities that made George Washington an effective leader were how much he was willing to sacrifice for the country, being so confident, & respectableness.
George Washington tried to encourage a political system that would be unified. Unification turned out to be difficult since even Washington’s main advisors, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson had opposing views about key issues. Jefferson was Washington’s Secretary of State, and Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury. These two saw the role of the federal government of the United States very differently and because of this political unification was threatened.

A true leader does not take control in order to strive for money or fame, instead he or she strives to improve the needs of citizens and to contribute their talents for society, which is reflected in George Washington. If the world takes care of our resources that are in reach to us during a short period of time, then generations will be able to live off of them in the long run due to the efforts made by a united
