Free College Admissions Essays: The Butterfly Effect

It is an interesting occurrence when something so entirely small can change your viewpoint. I haven't had many of these events happen to me, but when they did, it was illuminating. The term for these kind of incidents is called the "Butterfly Effect." Generally, the definition is captured in an example. It describes when a butterfly moves its delicate wings, it can cause a tsunami somewhere else. Many people disagree with this ideal; however, I tend to think of it in a more metaphorical way. To me, it means that even the most nominal events can cause the largest changes. I experienced one of those incidents a few years ago on the online writing platform of Wattpad, which changed the entire way I thought about myself.

My affinity for writing novels started when I was a child and tried to scribble out what was essentially- extremely poorly-written Harry Potter fanfiction. Then my writing progressed in elementary school, where I wrote a poem about a chair and was praised

I had little to no experience with social media, and I had never really written a book before, especially online with people other than my supportive parents to read it. However, I progressed and then one day, as I was sitting in the library with a group of friends, something interesting happened. I opened up a message sent by a fellow Wattpader. It read something along the lines of how she absolutely adored one of my books, and she greatly encouraged me to continue writing. I, at first, believed she was joking, yet after re-reading it again and again, I finally accepted the fact that she truly enjoyed my book. From that day on, I recalled that memory and felt truly accepted into the community of Wattpad. More than that, I felt enlightened by the fact that a complete stranger liked my writing enough to tell me about it.
