Q: What challenges do Americans and “political parties” face today in debating and creating public policy?

The system of democracy is based off unity. Citizens come together to work out issues in a way that benefits everyone, ideally. As humans, however, and being that democracy is a manmade concept, it’s prone to errors that affect voting outcomes. Some of these errors can include people’s votes being swayed because they were born into following certain parties or the domino effect that often occurs where trying to solve one problem may negatively affect another. While the “majority rules” method proves useful in many ways, there are obstacles that challenge the wholesomeness of democracy. In attempting to fix one problem, another problem could be worsened. Similarly, there are times when 2 problems are simultaneously solved, but the gamble is what lessens the potency of working out issues. An example can be taken from the issue of the nation’s recession. A proposed solution could be to simply print more money from the U.S. Mint, but this decreases the value of the dollar. So while problems, canonically, have simple solutions, they're more complicated than they seem. When being asked someone’s opinion on pressing issues, it’s hard to exactly agree with presidential candidates. Because topics have a spectrum of answers, people refuse to conform to specific categories. This creates rebellion, some in the form of peaceful protests, some more forward. In November’s presidential election many voters were off put by both candidates and decided to omit their votes, protest outside voting stations,etc., however some resorted to violence.
