Our thinking processes plays a major role in how our body function, we are constantly thinking about something every minute, and second. So many people in the world today are miserable due to negative thinking. Being unhappy can come from many trials and tribulations that we may face in our everyday life. It’s very hard to remember the good times, if we are constantly focused on all the bad. Many people tend to dwell on how they are feeling at the moment rather than looking at the overall picture. If I could create a magic pill it would be a positive thinking pill to make people constantly think positive no matter what the circumstances they are facing.
It is easier to complain than to make an effort to see the positive side of everything. At times, we all have a negative attitude as a consequence of letting ourselves go through negative thoughts. With the positive thinking pill you can’t complain because your mind will not allow you to. In order to live a positive and happy life you have to prompt yourself to not dwell on the bad. You have to surround yourself around people that will bring light into your life. Instead of listening to sad song you need to listen to more positive music and read positive books. As humans we will come across negative thinking its normal but when we choose to stay in it that is when it becomes unhealthy. Since the pill is only good for eight hours a day meaning that you have to choose to be positive on your own for the rest of the hours when the pill is not active. According to Merriam-Webster, to complain is to express grief, pain, or discontent as well as, to make a formal accusation or charge. For people, complaining is a way to communicate the slightest thought of annoyance. Nowadays, complaining has emerged into a never-ending and constant occurrence. People excessively complain to their friends and family, and on social media about small things. Yet, they fail to do anything effective with their complaint thus, producing an unnecessary negativity. Complaining has become a normal habit for people that has to be stopped.
In the United States 20% of the adult population report that they are living a flourishing life (Keyes, 2002). However, a high percentage reports feeling as if they are ‘‘stuck’’ or ‘‘want more’’ and are yet not diagnosable with a mental disorder (Fredrickson, 2008). Because happiness has been found to be the source of many desirable life outcomes e.g. career success, marriage, and health, it is of importance to understand, how languishing individuals can reach this ideal state: How can well-being be enhanced and misery reduced (Lyubomirsky, King, & Diener, 2005). Over the past decade, research in the field of positive psychology has emerged to provide evidence-based methods to increase an individual’s psychological well-being, through so called positive psychology interventions (PPI’s). PPI’s are treatment methods or intentional activities used to promote positive feelings or behaviour. PPI’s vary from writing gratitude letters, practicing optimistic thinking and replaying positive experiences. A meta-analysis of 51 independent PPI studies demonstrated significant results in the effectiveness of PPI’s increasing well-being (49 studies; r = .29) (Sin & Lyubomirsky, 2009).

All of the theories/concepts discussed in this paper have helped to change the course of my life in a very positive way. Being mindful has taught me to be more open to new experiences and points of view; being religious helped me cope with many negative situations in my life; using Fredrickson’s undoing hypothesis taught me how to think positive in negative situations; having flow taught me how to be more focused; having time affluence taught me how to value the more important things in life over money; and having hope keeps my spirit up and prevents me from giving up on my goals. All these concepts/theories are very important towards positive living and they have definitely helped me deal with many situations in a more positive manner.
